I'm purchasing an account but 4000 credits will have to be traveled within this year.

Between now and the end of the year, I will only have time off by Christmas and new year week. Is it true that all christmas/new year week in WM system have already been booked by now? Maybe a naive question. Want to ask anyway just in case...

Is my best bet to use II flex change for these 4000? Has anyone found christmas/new year week in II during flex change, ie around late Oct time frame?

Thanks a lot! I really don't want to waste these 4000 credits. What are other options?

For that to be the case they woul have to be in a reservation or they would already be donated - it's more likely that you have 4K that bee to be booked within the year anf traveled within 15 months (end of 2009)

They would have to be 2007's award and could be combine with 08's or 09's for a potential point total of 10,000 or 16,000 assuming 6K annual

Assuming they were used out of sequence and must be booked a II/RCI short term exchange would probably not work with your restricted time off schedule.

You always need to check if the same week is available for a flex change at close to the cost of the points (use 6 cents to make the math simple plus the exchange fee - 240 + 139= $ 379)

With II you could use select the 2 bedroom amount and "shop" for just about anything in the portfolio (that's available) They will charge you the $ 139 fee when it's confirmed - Replace the extra 6 K points with rentals - (approximately $360 on ebay right now) there's a high probabaility the points will post before II deducts the10 K from your accout

Others will have more elaborate schemes and correct the errors in mine I am sure:shrug:

A couple of other options - both of which can be done only after you are an owner.

You can rent the 4,000 credits to another owner. There is a section on the WorldMark Owners Forum, http://forums.trendwest.com/ubb-threads/ubbthreads.php, for credit rentals which you can access after you register there with your owner number.

You can deposit the 4,000 credits with II (or RCI). That will extend their life giving you time to look for a suitable exchange. Note that you don't deposit the credits directly, it is worked through the WorldMark vacation planning center. You tell them you want to deposit 4,000 credits and they deposit an equivalent week for you. You have no control over which week they deposit. You have two years from the check in date of the week they deposit to exchange the deposited week.

I banked 4,000 credits with RCI once. WM banked a blue studio week. I was looking for something during Christmas week, which was a long shot. I ended up looking at things that were last-minute cancellations, like weeks in Gulf Coast states like Texas, Louisiana, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, etc. I was lucky and picked up a week in Sedona, but it's slim pickings.

I mostly banked the points to try the search feature on RCI's computer system, but I prefer calling instead. You get a better inventory. I won't do that again!

It's not true that everything's taken. A lot of cancellations take place, but that's also the luck of the draw. I checked on Christmas week in Southern California. Indio, San Diego, and Solvang have availability, but none are only 4,000 points. You can always borrow from the next year. In Northern California, Angels Camp, Clear Lake, San Francisco, and Windsor are available for Xmas week, too. Depends on where you are looking. Louisiana is available. So are Las Vegas and Reno. Bison Ranch and Pine Top are available in Arizona, but that's cold. (I'm a wimpy Californian.) :D

I have heard of many WM owners doing this:

Book a WM unit with points from this year and next, at a area which may have lots of last minute II availablity. (Like Palm Springs) Get your airfare ect. Then at 59 days before travel, see if there is any last minute II exchanges available. You then cancel your WM reservation and make a last minute II reservation which cost only 4000 pts.
