How to Rent DC Points safely without getting scammed?

At vacationpointexchange.com there is a moderator cleared procedure to become a verified seller. This gives significant protection against being scammed if you purchase from a verified seller.

If you are the one renting your points to another owner there is no risk at all for you, as you only transfer the points once you have the money. There is significant risk if you are the one waiting to receive the points, I have rented many many points and have been scammed twice, sending the money and never receiving the points.

Ugh sorry you have been scammed. Yes I would be interested in renting from another owner. Hope you didn't loose alot of $$.

The risk is very minimal if you follow these guidelines:
  • Always rent from verified sellers as VPE has their ownership details, contact info, and driving license.
  • Ask for the TUG id of the seller, check their history and exchange a PM to make sure that TUG id indeed belongs to the seller.
  • First, do a small transaction of <= 500 points.
  • Try to do future transactions with the same seller.

Also talk to the seller on the phone and get some info that you can confirm as legit such as address, job, etc.

Verified seller on VPE is safest, or someone recommended, one scammer for me was off the marriott FB rental pages and one off VPE but not verified, both had faked screenshots with names and etc. Since then if I dont feel comfortable then I steer well clear. Happy to recommend if you want to PM me.

As others have said use a verified seller on VPE. I have a few verified sellers I use several times. I don't try to get the absolute lowest price when renting because i know I can count on the verified sellers to do what they say they are going to do. Piece of mind in doing this is a lot better than saving a few dollars trying to get the lowest price.

Wanted to check back and Thank Everyone for their replies. I appreciate the advice! Will stick around here.

I also ask for a screenshot of their MVCI account showing they actually have the points and that they can be transferred.

That was extremely helpful to me one time as that owner was trying to rent banked points and was not aware they could not be transferred. I don't think it was anything malicious - just lack of knowledge.

Searching around the WWW again I came across this site for renting points.

Vacation Club Points Rentals
bookelaar.kearney.ventures

They appear to have a nice Web page. Looks professional.
Has anyone ever done business with this travel partner to rent out or rent points from them?
They appear to be some sort of broker / middleman?

FWIW this travel entity appears to be based in Spain.

Run by a TUG member.

I agree that a recognizable name on TUG adds a 'priceless' level of comfort.

Does his sight offer a way to request an owner make a points reservation for me?
I'm not a points owner.

I believe Steve’s site is vacationpointexchange

Not sure that is the same as what CharlesAtlas lists

I have had several reservations made for me by sellers on VPE. Just ask if they'll make it for you. I've also benefitted from their Chairman's status several times on reservations within the timeframe for their discount. They have always passed the discount through to me.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Thanks for posting this. I've been thinking about the safest way to rent points to add to a vacation. There are a lot of good tips here.

I have rented out several times using this site. I post an ad and someone contacts me to rent a unit. Never been scammed, have a few repeat renters and many references.
