How to override a Garmin GPS, when I live in a gated community

Most of my timesharing driving vacation are to the North. Garmin wants to make me take a Northerly shortcut through a gated community. So, I set the home destination SOUTH of where I live and - - coincidentally - - the exit that I would normally take. So it works fine. This isn't rocket science folks. Just choose a destination that will keep you away from a gated community where you can't go through.

But my problem is there are several gates. There is one that I use most of the time, so I have set a point across the street for that one----which is about a 1 1/2 mile from my home. I go through that one when I am coming from the northeast. There are a few other restricted gates, that I haven't even seen yet (new to area). So, should I someday come from the South, perhaps those gates might be better. But my options will only be the Main Gate (the GPS default), or the point across the gate that I usually take.

It's not a big deal----just wish I could override 'restricted' roads.................

On my Garmin, I can save dozens and dozens of locations. So, if I were in your position, I might save more than one "almost home" location. Like "Home from NE", "Home from South".

When I drive to Palm Desert I usually take a route that is longer but is mainly interstate roads or multilane highways. It is like to legs of a triangle. Garmin wants me to take the "hypotenuse". The hypotenuse is single lane windy roads going through some mountains. So, I select my end destination (in Palm Desert) and then plug in a pre-programmed "way point". In my case, I saved a location at the intersection of the two legs of the triangle. Works great.

I’m old enough to have driven most places I want/need to visit so when my Nav System does something squirrelly, I ignore it. If it’s some new place, I use the Trust but Verify approach, taking a look at the overall route displayed or cross checking using Google or Apple Maps to see what they would do. Mostly I use it for amusement and giving me a pretty good ETA.

Cheers

Suddenly my IPhone does not want me to leave by the residents gate.
