Is it possible to determine the view category of the week that was deposited and received in a trade with Interval International. i.e. I deposited an ocean front unit with II and received a 2 bedroom villa at a different resort. How do I determine what the view designation was on the villa that I received.

I don't know that anyone here (or anywhere) has figured out how II comes up with how exchanges are compared. I don't know that that is the question you are asking. Perhaps you could call the resort you are exchanging into and asking how THEY determine which unit you are assigned.

With exchanges, there is no guaranteed view, although I understand that with Marriott exchanges, you usually do get the unit number of the confirmation - but not guaranteed.

What resort did you exchange into?

Hopefully, someone knows what their specific policy is.

In general, the resort reserves the right to assign any available unit to an exchanger, at their discretion. Their priority is to get owners into the best views first, so for an exchanger to get a prime view they need to be lucky, and the resort has to have low occupancy that week.

We have found that with most of our numerous II exchanges we are able to call the resorts and request various unit characteristics. Some of the time we get what we ask for. I remember two exchanges where the confirmation came with a specific unit numbers and we were told by the resorts that there was no flexibility. At one resort that we visit annually we can call, ask what units are available, and request one of those.

I agree, calling the resort is the only way to find out. Many of them won't give you the exact unit number. But, will at least tell you which building, room layout, size beds, view. Of course, always followed by subject to change in case that particular unit has issues prior to your arrival.

The unit view you deposit is meaningless. II does not recognize the view or unit number as part of a value when accepting a deposit.

Most II exchanges that you receive do end up receiving the specified unit number or type, but as others have mentioned the only thing that is guaranteed is the unit size. This unit code can be found in your history. It is not on the certificate. Sometimes you have to do some research to figure out what the unit code means, but for fixed unit resorts it is self explanatory.

I agree with the above in calling the resort. You can reference the unit code in your history and also ask if they place you in that unit or if it could be a difference unit. Many resorts float and have no specific view differentiation.

The only time an II designated number is at resorts that are completely or primarily fixed week, fixed unit resorts. You will get the deposited unit because the resort doesn't likely have additional unused inventory for that specific week with the exception of off season times. Even at fixed week/fixed unit resorts, the unit isn't guaranteed because Maintenance issues can result in a shuffling of units.

Unlike most here, I am not one to request special views when exchanging in. I also assume I will get a parking lot view (just hope not dumpster view) and am happy when I get something nicer or make lemonade when I get lemons. I always exchange into a unit knowing that the worst available view has to go to someone. I would hope because I don't call with special request, I won't always be assigned the worst.
