How to buy a Blackberry Curve (for Verizon) without a contract for reasonable price?

My son has a Blackberry Storm which is fairly new but has tons of problems (and bad reviews). He has already returned it once for a "new" (refurbished) replacement, but the whole model is just bad and we are now looking into just getting him a better model that actually works.

The problem is that if you aren't up for renewal or getting a new contract, the phones cost a small fortune. We've looked at ebay, but most sellers of these phones seem to have multiple negative reviews. I also found an online store called cellular2buy.com, but have no idea if they are reputable as I can't find any reviews.

I'm sure some of you must buy your phones without contracts. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Thanks!!

Try callling Verizon to cancel the contract. It is my experience that they will offer you incentives to stay with them. Some of students had this happen to them. I got a new phone from the local Verizon store but they insisted on my buying a service conytrtact which you can cancel a couple months later. It did some going backand forth with them to get the new phone.

Have you checked out www.crackberry.com?

Also, I'm assuming you can't find a good deal with Verizon right now with their
sale prices on most Blackberry models.

Hi Richard,

The only sales on phones through Verizon are those that come with a contract. I had found the crackberry website, but the only verizon blackberry that they sell is the same one my son currently has. Thanks!

Probably more than you want to pay though.

Be careful with Ebay. I bought a phone that was supposed to be new. It arrived looking new. After starting it up and using it for a few days, I left a positive review. Then I tried to charge it. No luck. It wouldn't charge. Phone was no longer good. $100 down the drain.
