We bought an HGVC timeshare unit at the Charter Club earlier this year. The owner that we bought from had booked the 2007 and 2008 weeks already. We are using the 2008 week in January to visit the Charter Club. However, I will need to "rescue" my 2007 points before the end of the year, as we won't be able to use them this year.

I believe that I can either rescue them via HGVC or via RCI. If I rescue via HGVC, I will need to use in 2008, while I believe that there is a 2 year window for RCI. Does anyone have any advice as to which option I should select? I know that RCI uses fewer HGVC points and would allow us the option of planning a trip over 2 years vs. the one year window that rescuing to HGVC would allow us. However, it apears that many Tuggers have had a lot of trouble with RCI bookings in terms of trading for desired locations. Is this also true for HGVC owners?

I always pick HGVC because of the quality- RCI has lots of resorts - but many are smaller and outdated-Im surprised HGVC does not work with II-
Anyway , to rCI or rescue-icall HGVC and they will help you- there is a charge-
Choosingwhich opt ion----depends on wher you live or plan to go on vacation- For example I go to Hawaii every other year so I rescued this years points into next and Ill have 12 days in Hawaii(5days added to my seven home reservation days at HGVC Waikoloa)I live in California, so---Ive also recued last year 2006 into 2007 and used the points in Las Vegas strip and Intrawest Palm Desert- both great resorts
HGVC is now in many different places- Hawaii, Florida, California Nevada- and even Europe- Portugal and Scottland-
If you think your plans next year involve vactioning in otherplaces then you may have to do RCI-
Hope this helps
Good luck

You can do both (rescue or deposit to RCI) via the website (click on Member Benefits, then ClubPoint Stretching). I rescued a few straggler points just the other day. I wasn't sure if it was worth it vs. the fee ($69) but the bump, added to my remaining 2008 points, gave me a couple more choices for long weekends next year.

How few points do people think are worth rescuing? With careful use of off-season and weekday stays I stretched my 5000 points into 2 5-night stays. There's 180 points left in my 2007 account. So it's $69 to turn those into HH points or 2008 HGVC points. Is that worth doing? If I had 500 points I know I'd pay to save them another year. But for 180 points?

If you calculate your maintenance fee per point, it's probably not worth it. But, I rescued 200 points because I can combine them with my "leftover" 2008 points (I have one 6-night reservation already) and get a nice long weekend out of the combined total. The 200 made a 4th night possible (otherwise I would have had only enough for a 3-day weekend and another small number of straggler points to rescue to 2009). Try to figure out what you'll do with your 2008 points and see if the 170 makes a difference. If not, it's probably not worth it.

I don't think I'll be rescuing my 180 HGVC points. It's not even enough to pay the difference on a weekend 1 bedroom silver and a weekday night.
I also thought back to my VIP purchase from HGVC originally. 5000 points for one year for $1500. Using that figure the 180 points are worth $54. Guess I will wait until I have penciled in the 2008 stays to see what it might help.
