We have reservations for 8/16 & 8/23 at the Waiohai. I put 8/16 into II for a request first search for Maui Marriott and the Westin, unfortunately due to my dd's camp not knowing the start and end dates I was unable to make the request at the 13 month mark and I also missed the 12 month date by 2 weeks. Nothing has come thru yet and II called me yesterday wanting to know if I would like to add more resorts to my search (I don't).

We bought 2 EOY weeks in Hawaii with every intention of going to Hawaii every 2 years and have been to Maui 3x before this....there is no dire need to go on this trip.

We absolutely have no problem staying at our home resort for both weeks, is it time I gave up the search and just book my interisland flights to and from Lihue or should I wait a bit longer.....also, I have no interest in anything other then a 2 bedroom apt. Of course my dh & dd have left the decision up to me  . I understand the interisland fares are going up and I have so many car bookings it's making my head spin.....thoughts anyone??

If you have no problem staying at your home resort , then, stay the course. II can only keep your request active until 75 days before check in of the week on request first. I would stick with it you may get it.

Good Luck.

Beverley

Why not look for a Direct Exchange with a Maui owner. Look at the TUG board
http://www.tug2.net/ads/hwexchg.html

or rent your week out at Waohai and then rent a week on Maui or even Oahu.

Regardless wherever you end up you're still in Hawaii!! Enjoy!

Wow....I didn't know that!! Do I have to do anything once I get to the 75 days before check-in or will my reservation at Waiohai automatically revert back to me?
Just when I think I've got the hang of it, this board teaches me something new...thank you Beverley and thank you too Quimby, but I don't want to go thru the hassle (plain laziness) of renting.

Stay the course!

I think you are approaching the time of when people are starting to concentrate on their summertime vacations. Of course most Tuggers are a bit different, more focused in general, and have already done so

Bottom line is, your trade will probably come through in the next 4-6 weeks as peoples plans begin to solidify. Good luck and please let us know how it goes, as I plan to do the exact same thing in 2009 - looking for 2BR in Maui at Westin or Marriott.

I do hope to book and start searching 13 months out and tag that with a 5 night Marriott preview stay at Ko Olina. Still kicking it around though as I would like to also get an AC.

Good Luck

:D

I would wait it out. The interisland fares are not that bad and can usually be booked within a month without a problem.

However, I would also try the direct trade route. Along with the classifieds here, there is also a marriott trade board called www.ownertrades.com They might be able to help you out.

I would say hang in there a little longer. We used our '06 Waiohai week to trade back into Waiohai in Feb. 07. The request was in for over a year and also had Ko O'lina. I didn't get the trade until November of '06 or about 3 months before the trip. I was sweating it out but I had made other arrangements just in case.

Good luck,
Darrell

If I have worked out the 75 days correctly, my II search will be active until the end of May. However, I'm not comfortable waiting until then to book our interisland flight as it will have to be the last one of the day (we arrive in HNL at 6pm) whether to Maui or Kauai (both about 8pm).

I think if I am unable to secure a trade by the end of March (mid April the latest) I will drop my request and be very happy to be at the Waiohai for 2 weeks.

Thank you everyone for all your advice and I will let you know if the trade comes thru.

I believe it will revert back to you without having to do anything. II cancels the request at that point because of Marriott rules (I think it is a Marriott rule thing). The idea is to give you the opportunity to change your request or deposit it or rent it or use it, all ahead of the 60 day flex period.

I can appreciate the waiting and the fear of a flight especially if you need the last flight of the day. Are the interisland flights refundable or can they be rescheduled without penalty??

Good Luck. Anyway your home resort is beautiful.

Don't forget about the new inter-island Hawaii Superferry.

:D

The superferry has too many issues for me to contemplate using:

1. Only running HNL -> MAUI -> HNL, no option if going straight to Kauai
2. 6:30am departure (we arrive at 6pm)
3. 3 hour journey (after a 10 hour flight, that doesn't interest me)
4. $75pp vs $55pp on HA

I think the superferry is really geared toward those who want to transport a car with them (then the fare is higher). Also, so many people are up in arms about this boat that I'm not sure when or where it will be operating.

Just an update and another question.

We did not get our Maui request and decided to use one of our Waiohai weeks for KBC. I did this because I booked a convertible for the first week of our stay and it was impossible to get 3 of us, luggage and golf clubs in the car over to Poipu (before we head to Waiohai, we are changing to an SUV for the 2nd week). I also thought we would do the east & north shores from there and south and west from Poipu. I realize the resort is being updated after our stay so I hope I'm not too dissapointed with the decision .

Our II confirmation only indicates size of apt (2br/2ba) nothing else, when I looked at the reservation thru my Marriott rewards account it indicates Platinum Oceanview.

Now for my question: where should I expect this to be and what should I request? I will ask for a high floor w/lanai (not sure they all have them).

Many thanks for your guidance.

High floor is always better.

Personally, we much prefered Waiohai over KBC(but it is just us maybe)

We once fit 2 adult, 3kids with one car seat, stroller, luggage for everyone
into a Jeep (without the extended cab) to get from the airport to the Hotel.
so-- I don't see why you cant fit three adult in a convertible. Just have the luggage deliver- or have someone sit on another lap

Huh, what do you mean by 75 days?
