How much do you expect to pay for car rental in Hawaii?

I just checked, Alamo rental for 15 days has gone from $728 to $1300 on Costco. I have never seen that before. Glad I reserve early.

What time period? As I have mentioned our rental went up quite a bit with Costco, but it's for next year. I imagine it will go down again. I'll keep checking. I do have a lower rate locked in (through AutoSlash).

Yes. I also don't rent cars very often. Only domestically. And typically only in the state of California. (Almost always renting in either Burbank or Oakland and driving in the direction of wineries. The last two cars I rented were in Burbank and Vallejo.)

I want my own insurance provider to be so far down the list they never know about any rental issues. That's worth $20/day.

That is a good point. We have our insurance company is off the list completely when we rent a car since we don't own a car.

I tend to book fairly early, but it really pays to check in periodically. We are going to Kauai for 2 weeks arriving 2 days after Thanksgiving. DH prefers an intermediate size SUV. When I looked in June, Costco was about $1100, so I booked prepaid through Autoslash for $953 with Avis. You can cancel for refund up until 48 hours from pickup. I checked again mid-September, and Costco was down to $835 with Budget. So I booked via Costco, canceled Autoslash and got a refund.

I checked Costco again today, and prices have dropped significantly. $615 for Alamo. Booked Alamo and will cancel my Budget reservation.
