Hello guys, how many weeks are marriot points worth, for example 3000 points? What will that get you for a 2 bed room? I was looking at Marriot time shares and I noticed their points are different than Wyndham so I just want to get a rough idea. Thank you.

Depends where you want to go, what time of the year you want to be there, and what view you want to see when you walk onto your balcony.

There are some systems that were originally sold so that X points could get you a 2 BR in prime season at all the resorts and Y points could get you a 1 BR in prime season, etc. Problem with that is an ocean front Hawaii or summer beach week may have a lot more demand than a prime week in Branson, Williamsburg or Orlando. So each resort has its own chart. Some places have a big drop in demand in the off season, where other resorts may be relatively steady all year with just some smaller peaks and valleys.

Also, when you check in to a resort and how many days of your stay. Example: a Monday check-in with a Friday check-out date. You will use less points; also; avoids holiday check-in dates. IMHO.

For $5,000 you can buy a gold week at newport coast ( Jan -May) and to reserve that week it would cost 2900 points which would cost about $20,000 ( if you bought it resale at $8/pt)

So if you find a MVC resort which you'd be happy to visit alot buy a resale week is a much better deal.

If you want to and are able to stay in week long (7-night) increments, you are probably better off buying a lockoff week to trade through Interval International. Cheaper in purchase price and cheaper in maintenance fees.

Look through This Guide for Points on TUG and This Guide on Weeks. Points are expensive no matter how you get there as you're looking at $30K and up to get one week in a 2 BR during peak times minimum, double that or more for some weeks at some resorts. That's looking at 4000 points which is the least I'd consider if I were new and actually buying points. I agree with Dioxide that weeks for usage and exchanging are a much better value and choice for most people starting from scratch.

And make sure you don't confuse all the various currencies. Abound Points (also sometimes called Club Points, MVC Points, Destination Points) are different than Marriott Bonvoy Points (when someone says "Marriott Points" it's often difficult or impossible to know which points they are talking about.) Bonvoy points are the hotel program and Abound Points are the timeshare program, and Marriott Hotels and Resorts (hotels) is a completely different company than Marriott Vacations Worldwide (timeshares.) Confused yet?
