Hello,
I was just wondering if any Club interval gold (CIG) members can tell me how many gold points would be needed for each discount for this cruise cabin:

CARNIVAL ECSTASY
BAHAMAS
DEC 02, 2016 - DEC 07, 2016
FRI - WED

Inside cabin, stateroom category 4B, 5 adults are travelling
Leaving from Charleston, SC

Carnival has this listed right now for $1522.95

My understanding is that the CIG members can put up anywhere from 15k to 150k gold points towards a discount on a cruise.

I'm wondering what the discount would be for each of the following deposits 15k, 25k, 60k, 90k, and 150k points

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully someone with points can look this up for you. My guess is interval points are valued at about half a cent a point toward cruises.

I couldn't imagine 5 people sharing a single inside cabin. I have slept on a train with 6 berths. I was in my 20's and 4 were strangers. I guess it would be similar plus a bathroom. Those were the days.

I looked up the unit a small 1 br at SBP gold plus (Sheraton Broadway Plantation, MF $420

I think the exchange fee of $189 would also apply.

I used a higher value week and it will take $ off the price and the tax for the 1st and 2nd person but it doesn't look like it takes anything off the additional passengers.

tschwa2, thanks for including the oceanview cabin, but in order to keep things simple to compare, I am just looking at the inside cabin.

This is what I got with a $300 MF Williamsburg KCP (Kingscreek) for in July.

#1) $36.28 $105.59 $141.87USD
#2) $36.28 $105.59 $141.87USD
#3) $139.00 $105.59 $244.59USD
#4) $139.00 $105.59 $244.59USD
#5) $139.00 $105.59 $244.59USD

Subtotal $489.56 $527.95 $1,017.51USD

Grand Total $1,017.51 USD

When you add the $64 Gold membership fee, the $179 online exchange fee, and the $300 MF for the timeshare, the grand total is $1560.57

With your $420 1bdr SBP the grand total is 1559.3

Therefore, it seems that using Interval Gold, you have to pay an extra $100-$110 on top of the $1,456.30 that II charges for the cruise.

However, my understanding is that with CIG, you do not pay the exchange fee until you choose 60k points or more towards your cruise discount.

Hence the importance of knowing just much of a discount, if any, you could get by using gold points towards cruise discounts.

I have a gold membership, ran the same info using my one timeshare which has a high value and roughly 1000 HOA fees. All used on interior cabin. Ran through with up to 90k points, which is what I have available. Agree with OP it only seems to make a difference on the first two occupant costs.

Everything was the same for the first few searches but last one the three additional passengers were slightly more money. No idea why.

Got answer privately, here it is:

I had a ton of points and I wanted to TRY and use them this winter before a portion of them expires in April. I had heard that a cruise exchange is a complete rip off, however, I wanted to see what would happen if I used a large amount of my points toward one.

I contacted the cruise desk at II and asked the agent if there are ANY cruises where I could use more than 150,000 points. He said "no", there aren't. One hundred and fifty thousand is the max.

The amount he quoted me for a five day cruise out of Tampa was the same as something I could get online and NOT use my points.

I think its because in order to get a quote you must put a cabin on hold, and when you get multiple quotes the system thinks that the cabins are being snapped up like hot cakes and jacks up the price accordingly.

In order to prevent this from happening, it helps to wait 20 minutes between quotes when you notice the price starts going up. This gives the system time to reclaim the cabins that were previously put on hold because of the multiple quotes.

thanks for sharing this data!
