Just made a request first, trading kauai beach for waiohai for the same week. Since our travel plans are not effected by the trade, I guess I can wait to here right up until end or at least the last few days, right?

Actually, I think you will have until 75 days before your scheduled check-in date. Then you'll have to make a decision. One of two explanations (same result) on the MVCI website:
The Special Marriott Internal Exchange option is the same as Request First, but you may list the travel dates later than your home week. You must request a Marriott Vacation Club International resort only, and must place the request between 12 months and 75 days prior to your home week. If no confirmation has been completed by 75 days prior to your home week, you must choose from one of the following options:
  • Have II return your home week, cancel the request, and refund your fee.
  • Deposit your home week and continue with the pending request.
That makes sense. Assume you could wait until the last few days, as you suggest, to see what happens and suddenly your requested exchange comes through. It would be too late for II to make effective use of the week you are giving up. Making a choice 75 days in advance gives II some time to confirm your week to another exchanger, assuming you decide to deposit it.

you can't do an on going request with II within the 59 day flexchange window. So, if you want to keep looking, just do a online search each day to see if something opens up. II will not accept a deposit with a unit within 14 days of checkin. So the last time you'll be able to check is 14 days before travel.

The "75 days" must be something Marriott does.

Craig U said just the other day that you should cancel a "request first" approx 65 days before the date of your units check in. So, that there is enough time to confirm a deposit before the 59 day deadline of regular II deposits.

OK....now I'm a bit confused. I have a "request first" exchange in and if I don't receive my week from II, I plan on using my home resort. Why do we care if we are within 59 days since there is no plan to deposit the original week.

Isn't that the whole purpose of doing a request first? Otherwise I would just do a deposit first (and get an AC!).

Just to clarify

"The Special Marriott Internal Exchange option is the same as Request First, but you may list the travel dates later than your home week"

I'm not using later dates

"So, that there is enough time to confirm a deposit before the 59 day deadline of regular II deposits."

I'm not depositing if I don't get my trade.

I'm not depositing if I don't get my request either. Plus my request first is not a special Marriott Internal Exchange one since I am requesting a Royal resort for the same week I am trying to give up. (Christmas week)

So are you saying that II will automatically cancel our requests at 60 days out?

Jan

II does not continue to try and match on-going requests within 60 days of date of travel (which in OP case was also 60 days before home week check-in). The only way for you to make an exchange within that time period is to match it via the phone with an II rep or match it yourself online.

AND since your trying to match with a week which checks in the same dates you want to exchange for, you must make the exchange at least 14 days before travel since that is the last day that II will accept a deposit.

Hope that clears this up.

I am confused. Is this Special Marriott Internal Exchange a different animal/tool than II's Request First ?

I want to see how this is different if I were to use my MMC week say to confirm into Newport Beach Villas (NVC) - do I have a choice to use one of two different 'request first' methods?

Amending my earlier post, there are three different methods for exchanging a Marriott week: Deposit First, Request First and the special Marriott Internal Exchange method.

The first two are as normally described in II materials. The third, which is a special Marriott-only version of Request First, applies only (contrary to my earlier statement) when the requested travel date is after the date of the owner's week. In that case, the owner must choose what to do at the 75-day mark: (1) deposit the week and continue the exchange request or (2) cancel the exchange request and keep the week.

Another quote from the MVCI site:
If Interval International® is unable to instantly confirm you into your desired destination and:
  • You do not wish to use your reserved home resort week, select Deposit First
  • You would like to use your reserved home resort week, choose Request First
If the resorts you are requesting are all Marriott resorts and your desired travel dates are after your reserved home resort week, select the Special Marriott Internal Exchange method.

Please note that at the time of your request, you must select one of the following options, which will become effective if you are not confirmed into one of your requested resorts 75 days prior to your reserved home resort week:
  • Option A: Have Interval International return your home resort week, cancel the request, and refund your fee.
  • Option B: Instruct Interval International to deposit your home resort week as a Deposit First and continue to search for a match.

Thanks Dave - this info clarifies things. Another 'tool' for us exchangers.

Is this special internal exchange/request option done through II (via the Marriott Desk by phone AND/OR by logging onto the II website) or thru MVCI customer service and/or VOA?

If you went this route of using the special internal exch/request, would you know relatively where your request will be placed on the waiting list for the resort you are requesting (example - versus others who go through II and place a deposit first request for the same resort the same time you make the special request).

the special Marriott Internal Exchange method. :

Wow... I think I've missed the boat. What is "special Marriott Internal Exchange Method"? I've never heard of it.

The method is described in the paragraph and two bullets that follow your quoted language. It's a method to allow Marriott users to use the Request First method when their own week falls on a date before the dates they want to travel for an exchange.

That's not possible for the normal II Request First method, under which (from II's T&C) ...
The requested travel dates must be prior to or the same as the dates of the week(s) being relinquished.

It also looks like you can only use it (Marriott Internal Exchange) when requesting another Marriott resort. It wouldn't be available in my situation.

So both the OP and I will be waiting until the 60 day mark and then we will just assume that we will use our home resort. Does Marriott automatically refund our exchange fee?
