There are lots of amateur experts here. Beefnot nailed it.

People accused the OP of being a shill, stealing Kevin's screenname/identity, illegally advertising for a lawyer, being a phony or scam, a con artist, posting at the request of a RESCUE COMPANY, and now lying about reading TUG before hiring the lawyer.

Its also quite possible that this is just a guy who had lurked on TUG before, didn't see a way out, paid $2000 to have someone help him get out, felt like to him it was a good value (like some that buy from the developer ), had no ulterior motives, posted his first post on TUG, and got blasted.

But, "we will never know" for certain, so its all good.

Wow, lots of love on this site. Primarily the reason I wanted to post this.

Am I am real person? I sure hope so. I am posing as someone? No. As for the attorney, he is also real and no I dont work for him. Just a satisfied customer.

I really didn't think it'd get 15 posts overnight but hurray me I guess. So now I get to talk through the rest of my statements:
1. Why didn't you just opt out yourself? Well, I tried the squeaky well approach with no avail. I called them 5 times and every time I got the same response of "we won't refund you but you should try and let the timeshare work for you". Well we tried. Our honeymoon we tried to go to Italy but you need more than 8 months in advance to get that (not what they said during the sales pitch). And then we tried palm desert for Stagecoach. I get it, it's a busy weekend, but a year in advance isn't good enough? Then we tried Hawaii and on and on. It's not gonna work for us. Aside from that, every advice on this site and others says the squeaky wheel gets zero grease.
2. Recent Welk dispute...? Did this happen between Feb 2015 and now? When I did my research I didn't find anything in terms of a recent lawsuit against Welk. I'll be looking into that now, thank you for that info.
3. You still paid $2k. Well I also saved $23k. And I'm glad I did. This worked for me but it probably won't work for people that have a small balance on their loan.

So yes, I'm a real person. And cool story indeed, bro. I'm sure you guys get these posts all the time but honestly, I don't know how else I can put it in writing without sounding like a "shill".

Cheers and if this helps one person out there, great.

Kevin (my real name too btw.)

I am unclear on how you saved $23K? I get that you paid someone $2k to convince Welk to take back the timeshare, but I thought you had no balance due?

Owed $25K. Paid $2K. Now owes 0. 25-2=23.
... He charges $2,000 total ... we were in the hole about $25k. . . now it is listed as an agreed settlement with a $0 balance and our credit is just fine. We are officially free!

I work in critical care. People who are desperate to believe something have a very hard time objectively considering their options. It's human nature.

It is very good advice to advise on this forum not to throw good money after bad by paying an upfront fee to get out of a contract. The chances of being burned twice are high and doubly compounded by the inability to be objective about feeling rooked in the first place.

Throw in phrases like "guarantee", "almost too good to be true", and what I consider to be a very dubious claim of stopping payments and getting out with no credit ding, and the OP does sound like a shill. Now, add first time poster and if it walks like a duck...

If the OP had 1500 posts here, he almost certainly would have been taken more at face value. I'm sorry, he simply hadn't earned credibility as a 1 post poster gushing about an upfront fee company (says the guy with a dozen posts).

Make that 11 posts at the time of this posting.
