How hard is it to book the Point at Poipu via RCI weeks exchange?

We're considering a trip back to Kauai in Spring 2022 and want to stay near Poipu (have stayed in Princeville and Lihue before). If we put in an OGS with our TPUs two years in advance, what are our chances? Any tips for dates to look for or avoid? I've ruled out Lawai Beach Resort due to the lack of A/C. We'd want a 1 bedroom or larger. TIA!

While DRI primarily trades through II our first stay at PatP was through an RCI trade but it was a Points trade and not TPU. I think the smallest Unit at PatP is 2 bedroom. We have never stayed there in the summer. There is AC in the main living area and in the Master Bedroom. The 2nd bedroom has to rely on Fans. But you are smart to put in the request early. I would make the request as broad as possible - 7 days during "______ " (30 day period). We are staying there for 2 weeks this September.

I suspect that RCI inventory is limited. Because Diamond is officially affiliated with II, most (f not all) of the inventory that RCI receives would be from deeded week owners who are also not part of the Diamond Club. Note that subset of owners can place inventory in any of RCI, II, SFX, or TPI. It's possible that people who own points in the Hawaii Collection, but are not part of the Diamond Club, might also be able place inventory with RCI. I just don't know - I've never had reason to look up the reservation rights for trust owners.

If you are trying to make a weeks exchange, trade power is going to be a big issue. If your deposit doesn't have enough trade power, an exchange will not be made unless it starts to get close enough to check in that the required trade power for the exchange drops low enough to match the trade power of your deposit.

…. There is AC in the main living area and in the Master Bedroom. The 2nd bedroom has to rely on Fans. …..

This is true for suites that "bend around the corners". The majority of the suites are not arranged this way. There are AC units and ceiling fans in the two bedrooms, and a ceiling fan in the living room. If you open the dining room and kitchen windows plus the lanai screen door, you have cross ventilation in the living room.

We have stayed at the Point nine times, all seasons and never used the AC.

correct. Those area where there is an interior bend in the building - not an outside corner. I've heard resort personnel call those units "elbow units), because they are like the crook of an elbow.

Another aspect of the elbow units is that the windows in the second bedroom open to the hallway at the back of the unit, and not the ocean or the grounds. IMO - the elbow units are nice if you don't need the second bedroom, because then you have AC in both the living room and the main bedroom. But if you need the second bedroom, then those are the least desirable units because of the layout and lack of AC in the second bedroom.

GPX also gets a fair amount of Point at Poipu. I was able to book my DS a week a year ago for his honeymoon through GPX. You should also consider direct exchanges if you don't get anything through RCI
