How does your timeshare assign/schedule your weeks?

For those who have a timeshare that is a floating week, how do they assign weeks?

I'm asking because my timeshare does it in a way that doesn't seem ideal. Today I had to call in at 7:00AM to "get in line" and now I am waiting for a call back to pick my week for 2027. Other options I could have used are mailing in my choices or being at the resort in person to stand in line. They say they rotate between the three methods: one person in line, one phone call, one mail-in, then start over with one person in line, etc.

It seems like there is probably software that they could use to do the mass scheduling. Like everyone enters their top five weeks and the software auto-assigns the majority of them. Then their staff only have to deal with the sticky situations where 20 people want the same week and there are only 12 rooms. Or the software could randomly assign which 12 gets their preferred week and give the other 8 their second choice week. Does software like this exist that I could recommend to our timeshare management company?

My parents have one that does it this way. They've done it this way since they purchased the timeshare 30+ years. Its a small timeshare resort and they've never changed there system.

Our FL timeshare is floating weeks. There are 2 categories, prime and preferred time. Prime is summer and Christmas, preferred is the rest of the year. Prime owners can also book in preferred time if they want. We can pay our maintenance fees in the summer before our use year, and at the same time send in our request for what week and unit we want. All requests must be in by a certain date (Aug.1 for us as preferred time owners) and they are put into a draw. I do not know if they are still doing that by hand with requests in a bucket or if requests are fed into a computer. A few days later the requests are pulled one by one and that request is filled. If a week &/or unit is already booked when your name is drawn they go to your 2nd, 3rd or more choice. Prime and preferred have different deadline dates so the resort staff is not swamped. We always get our 1st choice of week and nearly always get the unit we want which is ocean facing on the top/4th floor or the 3rd floor since we travel in shoulder season.

The worst system I've dealt with is Gaitlinburg Town Square, and I just call in July to book the next July for hopefully max trading value. I've never done more than ask to book it.

Our timeshare at San Diego Country Estates is floating time. When I call to spacebank it with RCI I can choose the weeks I want. I try to pick holiday times so I get more TPUs for it.

When we first wanted to deposit our floating week to exchange it, our resort said we needed to go through them to get a week assigned and then they would notify RCI. I did that once and found out the resort assigned us a lower value (TPU didnt exist then) week/unit that wasn't reserved. I talked to a long time owner (1 week to use & 1 week to exchange) at the pool on a visit and she said to always book a 'good week' as if we were going to use it, then after the resort sent our confirmation to contact RCI myself which I did from then on. Now that TPUs are used I can see that there is only a little difference in TPUs for booking a good week (ie; Easter, and a less demand week ie: Oct.) but every bit helps.

Ours does work like that. I have to go through San Diego Country Estates to "book" the week, and then they give it to RCI. Using RCI's TPU calculator I can see which weeks would give me the most TPUs.

Floating weeks at Lawai Beach Resort is 1st come 1 served based on your ownership (building/1 or 2 bed, etc)

Point at Poipu seems to be - 1st request counts for what is available that checkin day. That varys since there is many cherckin days. Also multi-week reservations get priority.
