With most points systems .. just another booing window.

With floating weeks, just another available week to book.

With FIXED WEEKS .. depends on the HOA and its rules.

Is it happening in 2017?

Looking to rent the end of December and into January.

Thxs

I am not clear on what you are asking. If you are looking for a specific date to rent, just search the Ads on TUG or Redweek by that date.

The mechanics of how the owner makes the reservation, won't impact your ability to rent it.

Here is the TUG Timeshare calendar (change it to 2017 if necessary.) I will show you the dates of every timeshare week of the year:

Very well put

In the case of renting like Denise said week 53 would rent much like any other week.

I think it varies by resort/system.

I own a fixed Week 52 (Friday-Friday) at Quarter House in New Orleans. If I want Week 53, I just pay another maintenance fee.

But . . . Because Week 52 is Sugar Bowl, Week 52 will start December 30 and Week 53 will start December 23. Don't know that I'll be able to spend two weeks in N.O. over the holidays, but someone might. [NOT an advertisement!]

It varies by resort and deed. I own a week 52 and every 5 or 6 years when week 53 comes around I am contractually entitled to have it for half the maintenanence

Hi Jim,

Is that accurate? So the Week Numbers actually reversed just to accomodate Sugar Bowl?

Thanks for clarification.

Absolutely correct. If you bought Week 52 to get the Sugar Bowl, this is exactly what you'd want. Sugar Bowl. Every year.

Imagine what they do for Mardi Gras!!

I also own week 52 at the QH. Is the week 53 for a fee option automatic? I did not realize if that is actually the case. I might go ahead and take that option since I own week 51 as well. I like the idea of having three weeks straight in the same unit available to a renter.

I hated it for 2015 but I will love it next year. Because my unit also checks in Friday it checked in on Jan 1, the day of the Sugar Bowl. Unfortunately nobody wanted to rent it because they wanted New Year's Eve. I finally rented it for $300 the day before check-in to someone who was only using it for 2 nights.

You have to check with your resort. I know at the one I get for free, it is actually deeded as week 52 and 53 (Orange Lake Orlando).

Starwood and Marriott both I believe have fixed event weeks deeded as 51 and 52 but on the years with 53 weeks, they slide the Christmas event week to 52 and the NYE event week to 53 and they take week 51 as there week to do as they see fit. At resorts where units float 1-52 or do not have event weeks they take week 53 as their week to do as they see fit.

I don't think a resort should be charging an owner for week 53 unless they set up the budget to divide into 53 week for that year but many resorts who do give week 52 owners an option at 53 charge for it.

FYI, this is true for most of Starwood but not all -- certain (but not all) phases within SVR that were sold as fixed allocate week 53 to week 52 owners.

This is the case for Falls where I own.

I forgot about the pre Starwood fixed weeks. Do you get the week for free or do you have to pay an extra MF's? A few resorts just have you pay the HK cost for that week which seems fair at least.

For Falls, I pay nothing [extra]. Unfortunately, since it is a Sunday check-in, I have to wait until 2017.

Yes, Week 52 owners get dibs on Week 53. When we were there over Thanksgiving week, Sheneka said she'd deal with the Week 53s this year sometime. She didn't want to take my Week 53 maintenance fee then.

I thought Week 52 in 2015 would be a hard sell because I couldn't imagine someone checking in on Christmas Day and checking out on New Year's Day (at least not before 10 AM!). So, I put my F-F Week 52 in Quarter House's rental program. QH can rent a day or two at a time. I can't.

They haven't sent me the check yet so I don't know how they did renting it.

The odd thing is I don't see any availability for January 1 check in for any of the florida resorts through SVN. They have Friday Dec 30 and Saturday Dec 31 and then the following week Fri, Sat and Sun 6,7, and 9 are available. It won't let me book because the booking window isn't open using SO's but it seems odd that there is nothing showing.

My resort follows the TS calendar on the marketplace where Jan 1 is still listed as week 53 for a Sunday Check in for 2016 (rather than having a week 53 for Friday and Saturday check ins and a week 53 for Sunday check in in 2017)
Week 51 12/16/2016 12/17/2016 12/18/2016
Week 52 12/23/2016 12/24/2016 12/25/2016
Week 53 12/30/2016 12/31/2016 1/1/2017

For Starwood, Jan 1 is not week 53 at least for Falls. I called and checked.

My assumption is that Jan 1 is considered week 1 for all Starwood resorts and that if you are a floating owner, you can choose it as a week 1 date.

The Marriott MRD weeks calendar states "Note: Marriott Ownership Resorts Inc. has the right to use Week 53"

Each Marriott resort has a different resort calendar; you can link to all of them here. At the majority of resorts it works as above, i.e. Marriott has the rights to Week 53. There are exceptions at the few resorts with Fixed Weeks but again according to the individual calendars for those resorts, the dates may shift depending on the holidays.

Marriott used to offer available Week 53's for rent at reduced prices to the entire ownership in something called the "Gift of Time" but for the past several years that deal hasn't been offered.

I guess all fixed starwood owners with Sunday Check in;s will need to double check their dates for 2017 because their dates won't match most standard timeshare calendars. The will be back to standard in 2018.

Hmmm, I don't know if I would consider Jan 1 2017 as a "standard week 53" date.

I don't think it is a standard -- I'm sure it just depends from resort to resort. Even the redweek calendar shows Jan 1 2017 as week 1 for 2017:
