affect what resorts are available to you?

I know that there were threads on this in the old ASK RCI forum, but I am not the best searcher.

My question is about the quality filter that RCI uses to determine what resorts to show you for exchanges and Last Calls.

Our first resort was an unrated, much older resort and is the only one that we currently have listed with RCI. With it, for exchanges and Last Calls, we can see everything from really good Gold Crowns to some older resorts that also have no rating. We really like some of these older resorts and have had some fabulous Last Call trips at them.

If we enroll the GC that we bought last year with RCI, will that prevent us from seeing the older resorts? At this point, we don't plan to exchange the GC, but we might want the option in the future.

As I remember the threads on this subject, RCI said that your first resort determined this quality filter (can't remember exactly what they called it) and that it did not change if you bought subsequent resorts. Is this still true?

Thanks,

Susan, I am by no means an expert, but it's my understanding that the trading value you'll receive is based on the deposit you make. Your first resort is only used to create your account number, and isn't supposed to affect subsequent deposits. I don't know how you'd go about "registering" additional t/s purchases, or why you'd even need to.

I remember this being discussed when I first started coming to TUG. I think we've now decided that everybody sees the same things in Extra Vacations and Last Call, and what you see in terms of exchanges depends on the deposit you are searching against.

I have two different RCI accounts. When searching for Extra Vacations, I DO SEE DIFFERENT LISTINGS. I can only guess it is due to the original resort on the account. I believe that Madge confirmed this several years ago. For instance, if your original resort was an upper level Gold Crown, the lower level weeks on the Extra Vacations listing do not appear. This was done to ensure that you would not select a resort that would not meet your standards of quality. I have not checked this in awhile and it might have changed. But I know when we were discussing 2-3 years ago, I found different lists.

As stated above, when searching for an actual exchange, the list of available resorts is dependant on the actual week you are using to search.

I believe what you (the OP) is asking about is the VEP (vacation experience profile). I don't know if it has changed, but what used to count was the quality of your original resort. For Extra Vacations, the filter would prevent you from seeing resorts that fell well below the quality rating of your home resort (your original home resort). Adding a new, higher quality resort would not affect what you see since everything is tied to your original resort.

Thanks!

Thanks to all who answered. As soon as I saw the reference to VEP it reminded me of the old discussions.

I'll add the new resort -- maybe someday we will decide to trade it.

So...hmm. Okay, let's say you start your account with a GC. Later you add a standard resort. In order to see the lower-VEP resorts in Extra Vacations and Last Call, is it worth it to let your membership lapse, then restart it using the standard resort as the "original"?
