Room requests

I am usually contacted by Marriott 1-3 weeks in advance via email. But a few times they missed doing that. So I just called the resort direct and asked for advance reservations (I think) or something similar. So if they contact you via email, an email response would work. If they don't contact you, just call them. Seems to be pretty easy

MOW always sends a welcoming email about a month or so in advance (assuming you have an accurate email on file), on occasion they follow-up with a phone call as well. You can ring the resort directly, they will make notes on the reservation.

I think the resorts in general send out request emails 3 weeks in advance, both for owned weeks and DC reservations, and for exchanges where it is linked to your Marriott account. Not sure if they would send it for II exchanges that were not linked to your account.

Yes, they have done this for me at both Canyon Villas and Ocean Pointe for exchanges. I don't own a Marriott.

Edited to add: I just came back from Canyon Villas, where they honored all 3 of my requests - floor, building view and building location - I was happy!

I think II provides them with the e-mail address. We got an e-mail from the Westin Lagunamar prior to our arrival and we had done nothing to contact the resort ahead of time or add our Starwood Preferred Guest number to the reservation. So II is providing them with the e-mail.

We booked a 1 bedroom and studio at Grande Vista and would like to request they combine to make a 2 bedroom. Is it best to wait and do this as part of the room request 2-3 weeks in advance or should we contact them as soon as possible?

We have requested this at a couple of resorts, and didn't wait for the email. Both times we got the location we wanted and the two units combined. It might have worked out if I had waited, but they seemed fine with my early call. I think you should call now. Good luck!

Call the resort now and ask for room control. You should be connected with a Guest Relation Coordinator who can easily accomplish this for you.

You can also wait until you receive the e-mail 2-3 weeks out and request the units be combined in your response.

I'd call now and also note it on my room request response. Keep in mind, though, that while it seems they usually accommodate this, they may not be able to. If there is only one view at the resort it is less problematic.

Interestingly, I had wanted a 2BR at Harbour Lake with DC points and they had a 1BR and a studio for the dates, both available, but could not combine them to give me a 2BR. I thought that was strange.
