How do you butter and eat your corn?

What's your buttering method?

I used to chase the butter around with a knife, but DH has a great method - put a chunk of butter on a piece of bread and wipe the buttered bread over the corn. No mess, and the piece of bread with all the warm melted butter is really yummy. :clap:

Do you eat it left to right - like a typewriter? Around one section then on to the next? Randomly (hunt and peck)?

I use the typewriter method, DH goes round and round, and DD is random.
 
Butterin

I either use your bread method, or use the entire stick of butter and rotate the cob on the butter. Then, I eat it using the typewriter method.

Saw this in a movie from way back (1983), "War Games" starring Matthew Broderick. I thought it was quite clever.

I usually don't butter my corn any more. I find I like the natural taste of the kernals and don't want to mask it with anything else.

Usually eat from one side to the other and then suck on the cob.
 
That's a neat gadget.

My sister uses the rotate the corn over the whole stick of butter method.

Years ago at a picnic we got lots of corn from a farm, cooked the ears in a huge pot, put them in several huge bowls, and put a stick of butter on the top to melt down. Best corn I've ever had!

So far all the votes are for side-to-side rather than round-and-round. Any votes for round-and-round or hunt-and-peck?
 
I put butter on a few rows at a time, then eat about 4 rows, typewriter style. More butter, more rows, til finished.
My brother, with whom I live, butters the entire ear and then eats round and round.
 
Jerry eats it typewriter style. I eat round and round, and always have. I don't butter it, and haven't in years, since we lived near enough to farms where we could get fresh corn daily (darn I miss that!).

We don't steam or boil it. I like it crunchy and warm, so I wrap it loosely in wax paper and microwave two ears for three minutes. When I worked I wrapped it in blank printout instead.

Hold the large end in your left hand, eat typewriter style left to right, 4 rows at a time, letting the juice drip down your chin.

That is the only proper way to eat it! :D :D :D

I don't butter or salt my corn due to high cholesterol and high blood pressure. but only eat white corn. I find yellow corn too gummy.

I eat it left top right like a typewriter and my empty cob is squared off instead of round.
 
Ok, so it's pretty obivious some of us (including myself!!!) have waaaay too much time on our hands if we're talking about buttering corn and how we eat it!

I have dishes just for corn...so I put the butter in the dishes and rotate it there. Or I melt the butter and brush it on. Or I grill the corn without the husks and baste them with olive oil, salt and pepper. Then it needs no butter.

How many of you have heard this: I had an uncle and aunt that took a knife and sliced down the middle of every row of kernals from one end to the other. They said it didn't get the outside of the kernal stuck in their teeth that way.
 
I eat with a combination of round and round and typewriter style. My wife hunts and pecks. I usually eat the corn clean of all kernels. Her method wastes too much in my opinion. Sometimes she will cut it from the cob.

I just use a knife and butter the corn, being sure to add lots of salt and pepper. Even with the high blood pressure and cholesterol. I only eat it a few times a year, so it can't be that bad to indulge.
 
We use spray butter here!!! Trying to watch the calories and fat!

Love corn

I don't use any butter, gave that up years ago. Cook ours in the micro, wax paper or paper towels to surround, about 3 minutes. best thing though is that our supermarket finally has provided shoppers with a container so that you can husk it right there, no mess in the kitchen. Hurray!

Cholesterol Led to Good Receipe

I don't butter or salt my corn due to high cholesterol and high blood pressure. but only eat white corn.

I like to lightly boil the corn for 6-8 minutes, let it cool, and then cut the kernals off the corn (easy to do). Then add some shallots, bell pepper, and tomatoes (all cut small) and add dry herbs (Italian/basil/oregano - or whatever you favor). Then a little sea or kosher salt. Lastly sprinkle some extra virgin olive oil on it (not butter) and you will be in heaven (serve with chicken or fish - but it is almost a meal in itself).

That sounds REALLY good. We usually have extra ears that we strip of the corn kernels, so we'll definitely do that next time. Yum!
 
We use spray butter and occasionally "butter salt" (normally used for popcorn).

I add salt and sugar to my water when boiling it.
 
I grew up on Jersey corn right from the fields and LOVE good corn! Infact, I only eat corn on the cob not when it is off! We have lived around the country the last 39 years and it is difficult to get corn as good as Jersey but having said that, I bring the pot to a boil and then put the corn in for 3 minutes. I also put a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar in in the large pot( that is how Mom did it and how I was taught!). We like if fresh and crisp so that is all it takes to warm the corn. Then I do have the Pampered chef tool that I LOVE and also have individual corn dishes that keep any dripping butter inplace, so you can twirl your corn cob in it if you like. MN corn is good too but getting it from the small markets the same day it was picked is getting harder and harder to find. Many small farm properties have soldout to large developers over the last 10 yrs............

Have to agree, except that I only eat 3 rows at a time if they are big ones. You must put the large end in your left hand or you have a problem when you get to the other end.

Bi-colored is my favorite. And I prefer to grow it myself (if I can beat the raccoons to any of it) and RUSH from the garden to the already boiling pot. It's SO much better that way.

I stopped buttering and salting my corn years ago; and corn has become so sweet and tender over the years, I think it's better plain. I don't think I butter any vegetables any more, except for sweet potatoes. But, I think everyone should eat the way they want, and if folks want to put butter on their food, I give them butter. Lord knows I eat enough crap myself, butter on the vegetables notwithstanding.

Sometimes I eat my corn in rows, sometimes around the ear.
