How Difficult is Spring Break 2026?

We are planning to use my cousin's points for spring break in 2026. We need a 2br unit. It is my understanding that we can reserve 7 months in advance. Is this one of those things where we have to be online at 7am? or call? What can we expect for inventory? TIA - I appreciate everyone's wisdom!

Deb

You can make a reservation at your cousin's home resort at 11 months. Where does he own? Do you want to stay there? If you want to stay at a different resort you make the reservation at 7 months. Availability depends on which resort you are trying reserve. Some are difficult because they are small and popular like Beach Club. Others because of the makeup of the resort which, like Boardwalk, which has all lock-offs and studios are very popular, making 2br harder to reserve.

Using DVC points for a two bedroom during peak season (spring break) is costly.
If you haven't, also put in an II exchange request for a DVC two bedroom at SSR & OKW.

I would have your cousin book at his home resort now. If you want to try for another resort, he can can see if available or waitlist when the 7 month window opens up. At least you will have a resort booked.

Here is a link to an availability calendar. My best guess is that seven months in advance for Spring Break will be a challenge.

I agree with above. Have him book his home resort at 11 months, then at 7 months see what’s available. Also, Spring Break at WDW DVC resorts starts first or second week of March and goes through Easter or into early April depending on when Easter falls. The week before Easter is hardest to book, followed by the week after.

What is his home resort, and which resorts are you most interested in? We might be able to provide more specific suggestions with that information.

I am pretty sure she owns at Bay Lake Tower (Contemporary Hotel). We are looking at peak dates: 3/28-4/4. We are interested in just about any other resort. I know this is hard but maybe other people aren't willing to spend the points for a 2br unit? (crossing fingers) As far as procedure, is there a best practice when we hit 7 months?

ETA: I don't know much about Bay Lake Tower. Maybe it's fine but doesn't seem as resort like as others. This is a once in a lifetime type trip for family members.

I have had II request in for a while now but not optimistic.

If the group will be visiting Magic Kingdom more than once, it is awesome! You can walk or take the monorail to get there. If little kids need an afternoon nap, it is possible to just "walk home."

The resort also has monorail access to Epcot.

Changing an existing reservation at one resort to another at 7 months is easy - just click on the "View or Modify Details" button and look for availability at the resort(s) you are willing to stay at instead (though there are some intricacies surrounding the issue of the new resort being a different number of points).

Studios are the most difficult to book but 2BRs are close. 1BRs are usually somewhere between easier and much easier because they cost more points than studios but hold around the same number of people (depending on the resort, one more, one less, or the same). BLT *does* have dedicated 2BRs though so booking a 2BR there is less of a challenge that at resorts (e.g. BWV) that only have lock-off 2BRs (and so studio reservations block 2BR ones).

Lastly, BLT is arguably our favorite resort for a lot of reasons and is more resort-like than some others (e.g. it has a community room w/activities) but it *is* less obviously themed.

The first and foremost reason is the location. Walking to MK is priceless - not only because you don't have to go through the Ticket & Transportation Center but also because MK during Spring Break is open from early in the morning until late at night (or the wee hours of the morning). When our kids were little an afternoon nap was essential...when our parents got older an afternoon 'break' for them was equally necessary. And travelling to EPCOT via the monorail is fun (though we usually Uber/Lyft back).

The BLT exterior 2BR villas are generously sized (w/a Theme Park View you are guaranteed an exterior villa) and feel bigger than any other DVC 2BRs aside from OKW. The views can't be beat. And the 'extra' bathroom is really, really nice with teenagers/young adults.

The dining options are unparalleled. The Contempo Cafe is the best quick-serve of the MK/ECPOT resorts and The California Grill the nicest resort restaurant (unless you count Victoria and Albert...which is not our vibe). And the newly opened Steakhouse 71 is great (particularly the lounge). Moreover, because you are on the monorail and the boat network you can easily dine at the restaurants at Fort Wilderness, the Poly, and the Grand Floridian.

And did I mention the view? It truly is amazing to wake up every morning to the sight of the Seven Seas Lagoon with MK off to one side, Poly and the Grand Floridian on the other, and the monorail pulling out of The Contemporary. And every trip we've ended up enjoying the evening fireworks at least once - usually after a 'short' day at Animal Kingdom or Hollywood Studios.

BLT has great units and great proximity to MK. In addition, there’s monorail transportation to the Polynesian and Grand Floridian, plus launch (small boat) to Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness. All of those are great places to dine or have a drink or just explore the resort. The modes of transport are very resort-y. You can also take a fairly inconvenient monorail to the ticket & transportation center and then change to an Epcot monorail.

The pool and common areas at BLT are ok but not fabulous. I don’t love the dining options. However, I’d happily stay there for a week, especially over OKW and SSR.

I agree that your cousin should book his home resort now and waitlist your first choice. Since full weeks in a 2BR may be hard to find at 7 months, I would recommend that he book two reservations of 3-4 days each and then he can waitlist each for the equivalent number of days at the resort of your choice. It will likely be easier to book your choice if you’re not looking for 7 days to become available all at once.

If you’re planning to visit MK, a split stay is worth considering. Stay part of the time at BLT and visit MK every day, plus enjoy the nearby resorts. Then target either Boardwalk (for convenience to HS and Epcot) or Kidani (for animal viewing and great dining) for the remainder of your stay.

You are a little early. I just took a look, and there is more availability for your week than I might have guessed. (For example: BCV is completely open in all room cateogries). If a 2BR is deposited, it will almost certainly come from SSR or OKW.

If we waitlist for a 3 & 4 day stay, then we risk a moving mid-week, right? I don't think anyone will want to do that. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

Yes you risk that. But if you do one waitlist, it will only fill if all 7 days become available at the same time. The chances of that are lower than two shorter waitlists getting filled.

I understand not wanting to move mid trip but there are some advantages to it. First you get to experience two resorts. Second if you stay in the MK area + Epcot area, you can walk/boat/gondola around to parks and other appealing resorts and only ride the bus to AK. Third if they continue the free waterpark benefit on check in day during 2026, you would get a free WP day on the day you change resorts.

But if changing resorts is a dealbreaker, you set up 2 waitlists for 7 days each and hope for the best.

It looks like BLT has either theme park or parking lot views available. Of course, we'd want the theme park view but the points are nutsy high. Such a dilemma!

For 2BRs for that week, I only see Preferred (fka Lake) and Theme Park, not Resort (fka Standard, aka "Parking Lot"). But it is Easter, so even the Preferred is north of 500 points.

I can only see what's available with the tool posted above which is slightly different.

Other tools aside from the actual disneyvacationclub website suffer from Garbage In Garbage Out. The 2BRs currently available for those dates are indeed Theme Park View and Preferred View...and at 614 vs 504 the Theme Park View villas are a comparative steal.

There are also two blocks of three nights in a Standard View 2BR available...but that means moving twice. I would add that ~1/3rd of the Standard View Villas face the interior courtyard...and all but the 1st floor villas of the 'parking lot' exterior side actually have a not so bad view of the Grand Floridian to the Magic Kingdom.

As for having to move once, for the past 15 or so years (ever since we bought BLT) we've always done split stays - 1/2 at BLT and 1/2 at an EPCOT/HS resort. You hand your bags to the bell hop in the morning and they're waiting at your next resort when you return from visiting the park.

How many points are being made available to you? Is your cousin giving you access to his account or is your cousin handling your reservations? That availability tool shown above is for a rental company and their “available for rent” reservations and does not reflect true DVC availability. There is indeed availability for preferred view and theme park view. I can tell you from experience, I’ve had some pretty crummy theme park views and some fantastic preferred views. You can see fireworks from the sky bridge and top of the world lounge too.
Your cousin should reserve his home resort now….to save points you might consider not staying a Friday or Saturday night (point drainers) and stay offsite especially if those are travel days. At 7 months it will be nearly impossible to get a 2 bedroom at Boardwalk or Beach Club. Animal Kingdom Lodge might be doable (but it’s a busy time of year), Old Key West (cheaper point wise) and Saratoga Springs (more points than Old Key West). These resorts are cheaper due to their locations (bus to all theme parks with the exception of AKL…still a bus to Animal Kingdom but not very far). All three are lovely resorts though. Old key west and Saratoga have easy access to Disney Springs (shopping and restaurants….not my thing, but important to others).
I agree that Bay Lake Tower is kind of “sterile”, but it’s supposed to be…its theme is “contemporary “. It just went thru a major renovation. Rooms look great.
Don’t forget you will have to purchase theme park tickets too. Some people are under the impression that DVC owners get free admission. Sadly , not so.

How does that work for groceries, perishables, etc?

Evidently not enough. My cousin would be handling the reservation but she doesn't have enough for a full week right now. We will have to decide if we want to do a partial week. Thanks for the advice!

I would see what is available with the points offered to you. Figure out what is important to you. The vacation itself, getting away or the resort. The number of people in your party? Some like the 2BDR for the sleeping arrangements with 4 adults or two adults and two kids so no one is in the living room....are you a party of 5? or a party of 5 and 1 infant..just wondering if a 1BDR is doable.

As @nomoretslt pointed out, perhaps consider arrival night off site or a value resort if you want to stay longer/stretch those points. Depending on where you are coming from, a week would be ideal......flying?.....driving.......is a 4 or 5 night stay doable for a trip? Just random thoughts.

Let us know if you make those plans. Good luck, hope it works out for you.

I agree with @AnnaS. If there aren’t sufficient points for a full week in a 2BR unit, the next thing to consider is priorities.

If it’s all being together in one unit and your party won’t fit into a smaller unit, then if you’re using your cousins points you will need to consider a shorter stay. You have have a pretty fun trip in 5 days IMO, and avoid the high points cost weekend nights.

If it’s a priority to be at same resort but not necessarily the same unit, then consider two studio units, which is usually around half the points of a 2BR with sleeping accommodations for a similiar number of people. Max occupancy varies by resorts, with studios sleeping 4-5. As DVC refurbishes units, they’ve been adding Murphy beds which are comfortable and also easy to put away in the morning. I would avoid resorts with sofa beds, unless it would be children in the sofa beds (they’re not very comfortable for adults). You’ll lose in-unit washer dryers (but all DVC resorts have self serve laundry rooms), a living room, and a full kitchen (if eating at Disney restaurants part of what’s exciting about the trip, the loss of the kitchen may not be a huge deal). We just stayed in a BLT refurbished studio and the refurb was nice and especially noteworthy was the functional kitchenette- works well for breakfasts, sandwiches and snacks. There is also a BBQ area at BLT- charcoal only- so you could cook if you’re cool with charcoal grilling and cold or microwaved side dishes. I am not completely up on the refurbs, but that info is available on the web.

We commonly stay first and/or last night off property since we drive (arrive to the resort around dinner time and leave around breakfast time) and don’t want to waste points on days we’re not using the resort.

And I dont think a 2BR exchange into Saratoga Springs or Old Key West are pipe dreams. It could happen. Some surprisingly nice weeks have been deposited.

DVC is its own ecosystem with a bit of a learning curve, but there’s lots of info out there and DVC knowledge here on TUG.

@heathpack - I forgot about booking two studios depending on the "guests ages".

I have booked 2BDR a few times to include one of my children and their family - make it easier with a little one having washer/dryer, full kitchen. I think I might be done with booking a 2BR - we have had two medical emergencies. It's a lot of points if only one party ends up going. I would rather book two studios next time one of my kids joins me (and soon the youngest two little ones will turn three so not an "infant" where the 2BDR is really convenient).

How does that work for groceries, perishables, etc?
Because a few years ago some yahoo gave the bellhop medicine that needs to be refrigerated and it arrived insufficiently cold for their liking, DVC no longer transfers perishables. So we now make a second much smaller grocery order for the second half of our stay with new perishables (e.g. milk). We've never had an issue repacking things like bread and chips into the paper bags in which they arrived, retaping the bags shut so they are secure, and giving them to the bellhop.

But depending on what you like to keep in your fridge, it may make more sense for you to pay the $10-$20 to Uber/Lyft you and your groceries to your next resort - the bell hop there will be happy to put perishables in refrigerated storage.
