How Can Marriott Do this to me????

I actually had the same thing happen a few months ago. I had originally booked my full 2 bedroom villa at Summit Watch for Thanksgiving week. When I called to lock off the unit they changed the reservation date for the studio side. Next time when I call I will say right upfront I want both reservations for the same week.

Same Thing at Canyon Villas

I had a similar problem last year with my reservation at Canyon Villas. Not only did they cancel my original reservation by mistake (after the MVC rep confirmed the lockoff change was made), but they told me that they were able to get my 1BR week for the week I had reserved. I only later learned that they had exchanged through II to get back my reserved week. I had to change my vacation plans and tried to deposit my 1BR to II, but learned that I couldn't because it was already an exchanged week. MVC never informed me that they had done this. Even though they admitted their mistake, they were unwilling to do anything about it.

I later learned that I could not redeem my Royal Palms week for MR points prior to 12/31 because I had a reservation within 60 days. They consider this to be a 'cancellation', but this is not explained anywhere in their T&C. After going up three levels, I was told nothing could be done. It is clear to me that the new MVC cares little about multiple week owner who have been loyal for almost 30 years. It appears that Marriott is also following this path,

Similar thing happened to me with my Harbour Lake week.. we are fixed week owners (week 52)... when I first started trading I had requested it to be deposited into II.. Marriott deposited a mid January week! When I called and complained.. they tried to tell me that it would have the same trading power.. I was also told there was nothing they can do since they had already deposited into II... I raised enough stink that they finally did get my week back from II after being told that was not possible to do and gave me our week 52 back.

I will try to respond to the many posts above. I questioned the rep when he said he could deposit the week as well as lock it off. (I had never done that either.) I also asked if I could go online to lock off, and he said no, that I have to call to let Marriott do it. (Does not sound like that was true from an above post.) I also questioned what the heck he was doing, but he assured me that he knew what he was doing because he checked with a supervisor who checked it 3 times. That was a red flag for me!

What bothered me - which I did not want to bring up in my original post because I thought it might complicate the issue - is that I also locked off and deposited a Desert Springs Villas March week which this rep also changed - this time to a Feb. week. I did not want the deposit to expire in Feb. I wanted it to expire in March so I had to go through this frustration for that week as well. However, Marriott could rebook my March week after much hassle of being on hold for long periods.

So you see, this rep changed 2 of my weeks without my permission. I have never heard of Marriott changing owners' reservations to suit their interests. This disturbs me very much.

What also bothers me is that they did not say they were sorry. They have the attitude of why was I complaining.

I never thought about the deposit expiration angle.

Practically speaking, you guys are probably right. But that has to be disconcerting that Marriott chose to deposit a different week than what was agreed. That would irk me.

Agreed........I was just trying to help sooth the wounded! I also reserve mine online to occupy then trade into II after I get the confirmations. I split an Ocean Pointe 4th of July that way and did one side of my Ko Olina for President's Week, all three for trading.

Persistence will pay...........

I have experienced this problem in every instance (3 times in 12 years) where we decided to lock off our Aruba unit. Persist, and they will fix it. December 6 and Thanksgiving do not equate, and they know it.

Because we reserve a year ahead, I rarely know for certain whether we will use our 2nd bedroom. So if I call later to lock it off, I do NOT wish to give up a prime trading date. I am very explicit with the reps that I must have the same date, and I never let them make the II deposit. This year I lied and said we were planning to rent the studio to an acquaintance and MUST have the same week. This worked better, but I still experienced a 2 or 3 day delay, and spent hours on the phone, in getting written confirmation for both sides of the lock-off. Very nerve-wracking.

The result was worthwhile, as we traded our studio for a great Hawaii unit. But what a nightmare. Good luck with this issue, and keep us posted.

You asked "How can Marriott do this to me?". The simple answer is because they can. Years ago when Marriott jacked around with me I sold all my Marriott Weeks in protest and have never looked back.

George,
"Cutting off your nose to spite your face."

What do you have instead of Marriott that makes you so happy? Just curious.
