Apollo 13's astronauts still shun superstition 50 years after their harrowing moonshot. Mission commander Jim Lovell and Fred Haise say they never gave a thought to their mission number as they blasted off for the moon on April 11, 1970.

Their mission was aborted when an oxygen tank ruptured two days later, on April 13.

I'm with Jim and his crew; the problem with Apollo 13 was a mistake in electrical pairing that occurred months before the actual flight. Yes, it is fun to play with superstition and other slings & arrows of fate from time to time -- but as for me, I choose a solid belief in God and the logic & reason that He blessed me with to carry me through when such events as Apollo 13 make themselves known.
