Does the Vacation Club have free hook-up in their units? I am trying to decide if I want to take my laptop. If not, is there a lobby computer we can use to check email? Thanks :)

Free wifi in the rooms...a computer with printer in the lounge which costs $10 hour (or more I forget) for printing out boarding passes.

Same too at HGVC Las Vegas Hilton (Karen).

Just to add they have WiFi and ethernet wire connections, whichever you prefer in the room. The WiFi in our room always had very good to excellent signal with good download speeds.

Surfer and dougp -- goodie :) now I am a happy camper -- or should I say timeshare junkie!

It might have been our room location but, we had one of the best connections and connection speeds we've ever had in a timeshare. That includes the Marriott timeshares we own.

huh.. i was there last August, and seem to recall having to use ethernet, and it not being that fast.

was there an update?

if not i guess there was a tech problem or im going crazy.

When I stayed at SCI a couple weeks ago I had trouble with my connection, and long story made short I learned that the hotspot was ACTUALLY in my unit!

While troubleshooting with their provider I moved a couch to reveal a white box with 3 pieces of equipment inside for providing internet there. In the end they had me remove the power from it until someone could come out and replace the bad piece of equipment in the box. :)

Also in passing I'll note when I was in N.Cal a few weeks ago, I noted Comfort Inn had a free computer and printer setup in the lobby to access the internet and again print boarding passes. There was no key or pw in order to use it.

I believe they've had wireless for some time now. I can't say why you felt you needed to use the ethernet cable. Our last stay was last month so I suppose there could have been an update between August and October.

Yes, there is free internet - just bring a ethernet cable. There is a desk that you can access it. I know there was one in the one bedroom and larger. Not sure about the studio.

The units have WiFi. An ethernet cable should not be required unless you have an old laptop without an antena.

While I had an ethernet cable with me I never had to use it. The WiFi in the unit had very good to excellent signal sitting at the kitchen table.

I enjoyed the Wifi last March in the northern most building with super access. But my August stay was full of interrupted service, having to reconnect every few minutes. It was probably the particular location of the room in the other building overlooking the front driveway, but I was not impressed.

I did really enjoy the resort in general:)

Does this resort have easy access to the Monorail? We are staying here on Thursday. I am glad to hear about the free internet I was thinking of taking my laptop.

TIA,
Susan

In a word, no.

To access the monorail you'll have to walk north to the Sahara (1/2 block or 1/2 mile), through the Sahara and to the monorail station. I'd estimate the walk to be about a mile. While a mile is not really all that far I wouldn't say it's easy access to the monorail.

The monorail runs on the other side of the street and is about a block of the strip. It's quite possibly the most inconvenient thing Vegas has done for mass transit IMO and I believe the lack of ridership (compared to what they anticipated) shows it.

IMO, you're much better off with the Duece bus which stops directly in front of the resort (literally) and has a 24 hour pass for $5 per person.

just got back from there last week...and while the internet was free...you got what you paid for. It didnt work half the time...3 out of 4 nights I was sitting around waiting for it to be "fixed".

Cell reception also was nonexistant in the room as well.

That said...those were my only two real complaints...rest of the place was great!

Wow, we had no problems with either cell reception or internet connection. Like I said earlier (in this thread or somewhere else), the WiFi service we had was better than any we've had in previous stays including our Marriott weeks.

Having read about and experienced several different resorts and their WiFi service, it really seems to be pretty much hit and miss. One person will post they had great service but another person staying in the same resort at approx. the same time will have a miserable time of it.

I suspect there are a few different problems. #1 WiFi signal strength is rarely equal for different locations in the same building #2 Things could depend on how many people are attempting to access the signal/system at the same time. #3 everyone has different equipement that has varying degree's of how well it will function with different systems.

I know a few years back while at a Marriott resort, we had decent signal and functionality with there WiFi. In the middle of our stay there was an update to Windows. From that point forward I could not access the internet via WiFi. I finally restored our laptop to the back up setting before the Windows update and after that I had no problems accessing the internet via WiFi.

As far as cell phone service we didn't have any issues at all anywhere we used the phone in our room. We were towards the end of the south tower and have switched to Verizon. In the past we did have many issues with dead spots when we were using Sprint.

Here are a couple of pics showing where the Duece bus stops and where the Vegas Trolley stops in front of HGVC LV Strip.

was in the other tower...32 floors up. There were 6 of us in the room...all with different carriers...noone had any sort of service...we were all constantly walking around trying to find something to check voicemail etc.

Neither of these issues would prevent me from staying there again in a heartbeat...I liked the place!

When we stayed there in August up on the 38th floor, we had fine reception.

Maybe it was some sort of Anti-Tug conspiracy put on by the new hard sell sales department there!

I am here NOW on 22nd floor of Tower 1. The reception sometimes is fast and sometimes verrrrrrry slow -- especially trying to delete emails. I am using an ethernet cable.

First time in Vegas Hiltons -- have beautiful unit. It has inlaid designs in floor tile, nice granite kitchen counters, nicely furnished. We drove from Carlsbad so the parking is not real convenient and the traffic here is terrible.

We ate at Delmonico's last night and thanks to a Tugger recommendation, we were in the private Chef's Table room watching the Kitchen work. What an experience! Ribeye steak was huge and delicious. Also ate at Rosemary's after finding Costco and buying the Discount there. You pay $79.99 and get $100 worth of food. Today we get 1-1/2 hr of free limo thanks to doing the Hilton sales promo. Really like the HGVC program and need to sell a few of our timeshares and then buy Hilton points resale :)

I guess we were just lucky with our room location. We were in tower 1 (south tower) and towards the end of the hallway. Over the years we've found cell phone service to be hit or miss in Vegas when going into different buildings/resorts/casino's. I've always just chalked it up to the tons of interference I imagine from all the electronics, tall buildings, and thousands upon thousands of people who all probably have some sort of communication device on their person.

We too are here now (11/09) and I am using wireless internet access via laptop. Rock solid connection, with great throughput. No problems or dropouts last 2 days. We're in Tower 2, 39th floor, 2 bedroom unit. I also have Sprint cell service and it's 5 bars all the time.

I just got back and we were on the 26th floor building 2, I didn't have any problem with my wireless internet.

Just checked in about an hour ago. We're in Tower 2, floor 14. Yes free internet, working fine. Cell reception is great with Cingular/AT&T.

Did find out that they stopped giving out coupons for the buffet.

Unit is really nice and clean.
