A minor dilemma...
Hilton has put its international hotel rooms on sale. They call it the "January Sale." You get 50% off and free breakfast on weekends thru August, if you book and prepay this month.

It just so happens that I'll be in Edinburgh and a double at the Caledonian that goes for $240 USD can be had for $120 USD (w-breakfast). Its a good deal, but what if you could use your HH-points to book a room there for free?

Do I take advantage of the sale and save my points for some other time? Or do I use my points for a free-stay?

I'd take advantage of the sale, purchase it with my HHonors credit card (Amex or Visa) and get the Hhonors points that come with the stay.

Is this for everyone, or only Hilton owners? Is Friday part of the deal? Is London included?

This sale is open to the public.
Fridays are included.
All Hilton's in London are included (19 of 'em listed).

This page on Hilton's website explains: http://tinyurl.com/9f7med
Some Fine Print:
Discount relates to the hotel’s regular BED AND BREAKFAST rate. Book by 31/1/09 and stay by 31/8/09. Offer valid for a maximum stay of 3 nights for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Some hotels vary regarding day of stay requirements. Rates are per room/per night and exclude taxes, gratuities and incidental charges. Local market defines weekend and as such, weekend benefits may only be valid on a Friday and Saturday. Late checkout subject to availability at some hotels.
------------
BTW, I concur with saving my points. If I can get the room for 1/2-price, using points would devalue them by 1/2... better to use them for a non-sale date.
