Hilton Head to ban future timeshare development?

I think they would rather have them build hotels instead of timeshares. Hotels bring in more tax revenue. They tax them at a commercial property tax rate and the local county can also collect sales tax for every night stay. With timeshares they only collect the property tax, perhaps at lower residential rates. Hotel guest have a higher likelihood to eat out at restaurants than timeshare guests, but timeshare guests are more likely to shop at local grocery stores. I think local governments see more value from hotel guests than they do timeshare guests.
I am not a big fan of the government banning something like a timeshare. I do believe that Capital follow the best use of money. Timeshare is a fairly labor intensive business especially when they are in sales. Timeshare in my opinion does a better job of providing occupancy in off season and provides a longer length of stayl

Don't forget the part about how many people live there year round and don't really care to have hundreds of thousands of people who come onto the Island. I'll bet they represent well in the local government. I grew up in a place that has a ton of timeshares (Williamsburg, VA) and that's how it rolls there. Yes, businesses do well based on tourism, but the invasion is real and sometimes messy.
