Hilton Head Island at Christmas

I am thinking of going to Hilton Head at Christmas. Has anyone been there at that time of year. What is the weather like at that time of year. Will I need a winter coat or just a light jacket. In addition is there much to do at Christmas.

We went between Christmas and New Year a few years ago. A light jacket or a sweat shirt is the most I needed on most days. We were able to bike, walk on the beach and do most non-water based activities. I think we had one day that we were not able to do much out doors. We stayed at GO so we took advantage of the indoor pool. They also had activities we participated in like painting ornaments and decorating our door for the holidays.

HHI at Christmas

We are owners at both Grand Ocean and Barony, and have Silver Season. Most years, there is cold and fog at Christmasm, and it can be windy. BUT, there is still much to do. Savannah is about 30 minutes away, and so is Beaufort, SC. Both citys are wonderful, even when the beach is cold. Also, there is fabulous "after Christmas" shopping in Hilton Head, and stores are uncrowded. All restaurants are open, and you can go to nice restaurants at the resort hotels on the holidays, when the smaller restaurants are closed.

We have gone the last two years. Last year it was pretty nice, but the year before it was cool and rainy. So it can be a mix. We are going again this year for two weeks. Christmas week at Monarch and New Years week at Grande Ocean. I guess how you feel about the weather will depend a lot on where you are coming from - folks from the north think it is pretty good and folks from the south think it is cold.

I am thinking of trying out Hilton Head for the first two weeks of November.

Can anyone tell me what I should expect in terms of weather?

Also, will I comfortably be able to swim in the ocean or will the water temp. be too cold?

Will most of the restaurants still be open, or will have some closed "for the season"?

We'll be at Grande Ocean New Years week too! We've been at HHI several times at Thanksgiving but this is our first time this late. Hope we at least have moderate temps. My DH hopes to get in a few rounds of golf.
