Hilton, Embassy Suites, Doubletree $50.00 Hotel "Cancellation Fee"

Sounds like just a very few hotels. It would definitely be a deal breaker for me. I don't mind having to cancel 24 hours in advance but unless that becomes an industry-wide standard, I wouldn't agree to stay at a hotel that imposes that.

Good thing, or Hilton would lose a lot of business from me. I make and cancel dozens of hotel reservations during the year due to schedule changes for work. I always book as soon as I think I'll be traveling, but probably 75% of the time things change and I wind up somewhere else or at the original location on a different date. So far the 24 hour cancellation policy hasn't impacted me, but it will sooner or later. My plans often change last minute. I can probably justify a charge when the change is within 24 hours, but not longer than that.

Of course, this begs the question of why anyone would accept this fee instead of just joining HHonors at no cost.
