I've recently started using a Hilton Amex for solely my Hilton purchases/stays.

Does anyone know if our HGVC maintenance fees and the $69 fees count as a Hilton charges (5 points/dollar)?

Thanks!

Yep, it sure does. We purchased our (resale) HGVC via a broker and the closing company was associated w/ HGVC. So we paid the closings company w/ our HHonors Amex, and got the 5 points/dollar! That was a big boost to our HHonors point balance!

I have always used my Hilton Amex with HGVC charges (closing, purchases, maint. fees, etc.) to get extra points. However, I got a notice about a week ago that, as of January 2009, HGVC charges will no longer qualify for the extra HHonors points. Other Hilton charges will remain the same as before. It is too bad that we are loosing this perk.

If your card is like mine, you might want to pay your HGVC maint. fees before this new rule goes into effect.

Where did you see that notice? I hadn't heard of that, but I certainly could have missed something.

Thanks for the warning! My bill says it is not due until the end of January, but I will want to get it charged on the card before the end of December now...

I got it in the mail...it might have been with the statement.

I'm looking for my notice...it was one of those "change of terms" notices that I usually kinda ignore. For discussion see:

The notice mentions "HGVC sales and packages". So I don't know if that includes anything under HGVC like maint. fees...we paid ours, because I have a bad feeling it does.

Hope this helps!

Consider yourselves lucky. Hilton, the supposed worldwide organization, doesn't have an HHonors card available in Canada. US, Germany, Japan, and UK are the only places you can.

American Express Notice with December Billing Statement

"You will receive three additional Hilton HHonors bonus points (for a total of six Hilton HHonors bonus points) for each U.S. dollar of Eligible
Spending on the Card at any Hilton Family hotel worldwide (excluding Hilton Grand Vacations timeshare purchases and package sales)."

I would interpret this quite literally--timeshare purchases (e.g. those involving a real estate closing) and those non-owners that book promotional stays at HGVC locations that include the presentation. Although it's discouraging that the three additional bonus points (for a total of six per dollar spent) are no longer available, we should still be able to get the basic three points per dollar spent on a HGVC purchases. I guess they rationalize this action because they give away lots of HHonors points for attending the presentations plus HGVC bonus points if you buy direct from HGVC.

This year I paid using a check because according to the my association, the 2-3% service charge that the credit card companies (including American Express) charges the merchants is passed on to the owners. I don't use my HHonors points as much not that I own, so if it helps the MF budget I will pay using a check.
