To carry this one step further does that mean you (and that is the universal you) don't frequent any of the businesses that aren't local to Hawaii? The hotel and restaurant chains? I should have addressed this to
@triangulum33 . When we visit we spend our money at both locally owned and non locally owned businesses. Both support the local economy.
I have looked at some of the locally owned car rental agencies. They never seem to have what we need for our trips. One trip my brother in law rented from a local agency. I don't know whether it was to save money or support local, but the car was a joke. He had to go out and start it up, let it run for awhile before they could do anywhere. And when he tried to adjust the rear view mirror it fell off in his hand. Kind of scared us away from renting from that type of operation.
