Hello Everyone,

I am visiting HHV for an owners update and as part of the offer, I am receiving 100 Hilton dollars. I believe it is only good for the Spa and Dining. Can anyone who is familiar with this recommend what to do with it. ie, which restaurants to visit, spa package to go with etc.

Thanks!

Hilton dollars can be used at not all but a variety of shops and restaurants on HHV. That's my understanding based upon experiences. Probably you will receive the list of participants together with the certificates. I hope you can find something you like.

I like to use it at the Crazy Shirts store they have at HHV. It's one of my favorite stores... expensive, but really good quality.

I used my Hilton dollars at NaHoku and got a fantastic 14K Kuuipo engraved ring - I had $200 Hilton dollars, and the ring was $208, so I got an $8 14K ring, however it did cost us several thousand $ to buy the timeshare - :) - oh well, I still say my ring ws only $8

Don't do what I did one trip...I wanted to use my Hilton $$$ at the HHV Mandara Spa to get one of the half day packages down to something I could afford. Before I booked a package, I confirmed in person at the spa that my Hilton $$$ worked for the package, and then confirmed with the same attendant, in the next sentence, that I also got a discount as an HGVC owner. Then when I came the next day for the half-day of spa treatments, I was told that "no, I could not use both the owners' discount and the Hilton $$$"?!! It would be only one or the other. Since this put the price over what I had wanted to spend AND I was miffed because I had gone out of the way to verify the conditions in person at the spa, I cancelled some of the treatment to put the total back in line with what I had expected to pay. To add insult to injury, I was told that the cancellation fee was 100% of my unused sevices!!! After going around and around with the manager, I finally got it worked out so I would not have to pay for the unused services. I was told that they would "make an exception, this time". Needless to say this situation completely ruined my relaxing spa experience! I had always used the HHV spa at least once on our frequent visits to Hawaii. After this bad experience, I have not been able to bring myself to go back to the HHV spa.

Thanks for letting me rant!

I have heard that the certificates are 2 $50 coupons. You can use them at all the places listed, but there is no change provided for them. So, for example, if you bought something and it cost $64, you will not get change from the $100. You would be better off using one $50 certificate, and paying the extra $14 yourself to save the other $50 certificate.

I can confirm this.

Also ask for the smallest denominator. They will probably first give you a $100 cert but will change that to 2 $50s if you ask. I don't know if $25s exist. But the smaller you can get, the more options you have without losing money due to no change.

I suspect that after your "update," you'll want to use one of those certificates for drinks and nibbles to help you return to normal.

We've been able to get $20 certificates. You can use them at most places in the Rainbow Village. They will give you a list of participating vendors (it's a long list- lots of choices- restaurants, shops) when you sign up for your update, so you can shop around and decide where you might want to spend the $$$ before you go to the presentation.

HHV Room request question

We're going to the Lagoon tower next Thursday (Woo Hoo!!! Can't wait). We are getting a 1BD (regular, not premier or anything). Does anyone think it's worth it to call ahead and try to get a specific room? Does it matter with non-premier 1BD units, or am I stuck facing away from the lagoon on the lower 8 floors, no matter how nicely I ask.

Does anyone have any advice, and if so, does anyone know the number to call? I've seen it around before, but couldn't find it in a cursory look.

Thanks in advance.

The only choice you'll have is which side of the building. Since I prefer the Diamond Head side, I called a week ahead and asked for that--and got it. The number is on the HGVC site.

My wife and I are currently staying at the HHV in the Waikikian tower, but spent four nights in the lagoon tower at the start of our trip. We originally had a room on the pool side (non diamond head side), and it was extremely noisy (the new pool has waterfalls and slides...it was like sitting on the airport tarmac in our room) so much so that we couldn't even carry on a normal conversation in the room with the sliding door open. I would advise staying on the diamond head side. They moved us to a different room, but it took several calls to the owners line to get that accomplished. Not sure why it was such a big deal for them.

As for the Hilton $$$, we did the owners tour and received $150 all in $25 increments. Not sure why we got $150 instead of $100, but we neglected to protest...:D.

As for the "tour", we never received a tour of anything. We sat in a room with a salesperson for an hour and were then dismissed when we didn't buy anything. Beware.

The flyer I received when I was there late Feb/early March offered $150 for a tour or owners' update. That's the most I've ever seen.
