Greetings. I am a newbie to timeshare and HGVC, and I am glad to have found this forum.
During my very first timeshare booking, I was invited to attend an owners-update presentation during my stay, and the rep told me that:
0 if I buy up and reach 10,000 club pts annually,
then I would obtain a "member satisfaction" rank, which would
1. open up the Hub's online booking portal to use club points to travel (airfare, rental car etc) at 40 cents a point.
2. This also would open up additional "exchange" inventory which is far superior than RCI, and points deposited in said exchange will last 5 yeas.
I saw a screen during the dummy login, of two bedroom in Aspen listed as from 8000 pts a week (can't see dates, call to book)

My question is:
What part of the above statements 0, 1, 2 is true?
Is 40c/pt considered a fairly good use of the points? My current points booking was last-minute; and it was roughly 50c per point as compared to Open Season.

Currently, I see the Hub has "call to book" and "each point is worth 0.7c"

The reason I am asking, is that the same rep also told me a number of things about HGVC which I know was incorrect, so there is a lack of trust.

I have no idea but it isn't really a question you need answered because there is very little reason to buy any points directly from HGVC.

my very first timeshare booking
does that mean you bought a package visit but do not own a week? or do you own a week?
"member satisfaction" rank ... I don't know what that is. Probably pure imagination.

"open up the Hub's online booking portal" ... I don't know what "The Hub" is but here we get to my first question again. If you bought a pkg, you have no Points and can't login to the Owner booking site. btw, HGV sells Points. HGVC sells Weeks, though for Owners who already have a week or more they do all kinds of switching/trading of deeds to get people to certain Point (and certain MF) levels

"points deposited in said exchange will last 5 yeas." ... I don't think that is true

"Is 40c/pt considered a fairly good use of the points?" ... Interesting question, that depends on which side of the fence, which view you have. By "good use" you're referring to the "value" of the nights you get with your points. You have to compare that "value" to your MFs, most simply, or MFs + amortized portion of your buy-in costs (more accurately), or using NPVs or DCFs, whichever term you are familiar with (even more accurately).
I'd say if your HGVC MFs are > $0.23/ Point, you'll regret it and you can get them for < $0.15/pt. If by $0.40/pt, you mean 7 nights would cost you $4,000 to rent (mkt value) and since they cost 10,000 pts to book, that is $0.40/pt, then that is a great use of points. That is very rare though. That $0.23 is a better ballpark

@evanzxu, since I have no idea what the salesperson was referring to (0, 1, 2), I think the whole thing was completely made up.

I know folks with ten's of thousands of points and are very satisfied members...:)

The HUB is open to everyone, https://hub.hiltongrandvacations.com/ , just you your HGVC log in info.

This sounds like they are pitching The Club and DEX plus the ability to use points to pay a portion of other stuff like cruises, etc.

The only higher up levels that open other exchanges in HGVC Legacy are Elite Premier with The Registry Collection and Luxury Homes but that is 54,400 elite qualifying points.

I really think that they were pitching The Club with DEX.

I understand that. I think HGVC doesn't discrimination resale owners like Disney does, so buying resale would result in the same qualifications.

Correct, this is the Hub I was referring to. My current screen shows everything as "call to book". I own a Hawaiian deed with points on even years

Thank you for the response. I currently own a Hawaiian deed (Ocean Towers) with points on even years, previously bought directly from HGVC. I regretted not buying resale but what's done is done.

I meant, to stay a week, it was $1400 on open season or 2800 points, and I used points, hence 50c / point. This BAR vs points is a calculation my friends and I use when redeeming hotel points or airline miles.

HuskerATL has pointed out the link to the Hub: https://hub.hiltongrandvacations.com/ I only see "call to book" on that portal. The demo was showing $300 airlline ticket for 3000 points (10c/pt), the rep told me 'member satisfaction' rank or 10,000 pts annually, would change that to $300 airline ticket for 750 points (40c/pt) and also open up online booking.

Wow, learned something new. Thanks, but I wasn't able to log in with my HGVC login information. Not worried because I am sure that will will be a poor use of pts.
trying logging in or create a new log in. I thought that I used my normal log in info but maybe I had to create a new one. I just logged in and here is what you see:

I would definitely compare to buying directly or through a cruise third party before using points for this...

They you already have access to the HUB...create your login info...I am HGVC Legacy, not Max, and have access to it.

I was able to get in after using the Forgot Password link with my email address. I set the same password as my club log in, now I can get in both.

maybe that is what I did....I don't remember.

I lost track. Has anyone confirmed they heard of this "member satisfaction" term before. Sounds like some very low level "status"? Is it a real term?
to stay a week, it was $1400 on open season or 2800 points, and I used points, hence 50c / point
Where can you stay a week for 2800 pts? And you can't use pts for Open Ssn, right? so it is bleeding into apples/oranges
Where can you stay a week for 2800 pts? Anybody seen this?
if there is a HGVC site that costs 2800 pts/wk (Orlando? LV?), I'd say you can figure out how ti rent the same thing for < $1000, never mind $1400,
This BAR vs points is a calculation my friends and I use when redeeming hotel points or airline miles.
Yes. Everyone does that, but, as in another thread going on right now, the issue is not falling for apples/oranges or letting Behavior dominate actual Rational calculations.

2800 pt weeks are probably studios in Orlando during silver season

This would be a very bad deed. High MF/pt and about worthless to use or dump

Right. My guess too, which means you can rent it for $800 or $900, not $1400. Almost all of this OP seems to me to be another web of half-truths spun by salesppl. When you multiple 3 half-truths together you get a 1/8th truth. I'd suggest the OP not make decisions on 1/8th truths

Just to be clear, this might not even be HGVC. Is there a deed that’s exactly 10,000 points? I understand the OP might be just rounding, but this sure sounds like an HVC/DRI offer. $0.40 a point MF ratio? That’s almost too high for an HGVC deed. A silver season Ocean Oak (5600 points) has a $0.28 ratio.

$0.40 a point MF ratio?
100% agree that, as with most of these OPs, the details are scant. but the $0.40/pt is what the salesppl are claiming a (HGVC or HVC, pick one) point is WORTH, not what it costs in MFs/yr. another thread went down this same road maybe 6 wks ago. Salesperson apples/oranges & half-truths become somehow debatable.
Then of course, compare the "worth" vs the "cost" and if they are similar, the mkt value of the deed or the pts are zero or even negative. Adam Smith?

I suspect that it was HVC trust points.

exactly...they have the 20/20, 30/30, 40/40...but the 40/40 is for premier + and centum...

Never knew nor heard about the HGV Hub before...but same here. While most of the selections look like ways to waste points, there are a wide variety of discounts in the HGV Everyday area.

Yes, I was able to get in via that method. Has anyone evaluated this site as to its usefulness? I always make a basic assumption that any point usage outside of booking HGVC resorts is a waste of points.

I did a comparison a while back between the cruise costs...HGV vs just using a third party cruise company....did not make sense to use HGV, waste of points unless you just need to burn points..
