someone recently took a good amount of time to post a reply that was an outstanding summary for the Hilton acronym soup system, i thought id saved it as a bookmark as i wanted to add it to the stickies or use it for an advice article as something like that should be a "must read" for anyone considering either system...but for the life of me i cant find it?

if it was you (or you know where it is) can you post a link for me? heck if I can find it I cant expect a random new person to do so!

The HGV acronym alphabet soup is confusing, even to the TUG admin. I think you meant to post this question in the HGVC forum, so I moved it for you.

I also think that I remembered something, but I couldn't find it. Maybe someone else can find it, or we can create it.

I was thinking about recreating this post that I remember but I am already stuck on HGVC which stands for Hilton Grand Vacations Club. That part is easy but now we have some resorts branded as HGVC that are not part of the HGVC (club) such as some of the former Embarc resorts and maybe in the future a few BG resorts. I expect that this will be the same for HVC (Hilton Vacation Club) with some resorts being part of the former DRI and some being former BG. So, the branding of the resorts is not consistent with what club they are actually in.

Here is my post from a couple of days ago:

Hilton Grand Vacations (HGV) is the overall company. Hilton Grand Vacation Club (HGVC) is one of the sunsets of the overall company. HGVC resorts are based on deeds that can convert into points. It's the original group that splintered off from Hilton Hotels. Hilton Vacation Club (HVC) are the former DRI resorts that HGV acquired back in 2021. These are mostly trust point contracts with some older deeds that are still left in owners hands. HGV Max is a membership that you enroll in when you purchase directly from HGV. That membership cannot be passed to a resale buyer.

Many here, including myself, believe that HGV has purposely made the names of the different groups confusing on purpose so potential buyers are confused by the nomenclature. That makes it easier to get people to think they are getting a better deal than they are so they can sell more. Here are the different acronyms HGV uses:

HGV - Overall company that oversees all of the different groups and owns the majority of the properties

HGVC - The original membership of the company except for the former Intrawest/Embarc properties that were acquired when HGV bought out DRI. The Intrawest/Embarc properties are only available to Max Members and those reservations are only available when a Max Embarc member (very few of those) makes a reservation at an HGVC property.

HVC - The former DRI properties. This group is broken up into different collections that group different properties together, the US Collection, being one of them. Many of them are shared by the different collections. Interestingly enough, the Hawaii Collection contains more US Mainland properties than Hawaii properties.

Hilton Club - Upscale properties that can be booked by HGVC members without Max (some have limited booking windows). Many here refer this membership as bHC (these properties were once called by Hilton Club by HGVC).

The Hilton Club - One property in NY that only The Hilton Club owners can book with club points. Not associated the Hilton Club membership listed above.

HGV Max - A membership that was created in 2022 that linked HGVC and HGV. This membership allows members to book the other group at 6 months instead of the normal booking window. Many of the desired reservations will already be booked by that time.

Salespeople rarely point out how hard it's to book great weeks using the Max booking window.

Great post and very helpful. I would add one very important point, one that was made a bit obscure to me when I purchased at HCNY. No other properties points can be used as owner to book at HCNY. That is, if I but a HGVC property lets say in Vegas in the after market on the "cheap", I can't use those points to extend my time/stays at HCNY.

well done.

one clarification on MAX, did you mean to say "linked HGVC and HVC"?
