HGV Max for resale owners?

I’ve seen several recent posts on this board referring to HGV Max. I own several HGVC weeks, all resale, and I’ve heard nothing about this from HGVC. I couldn’t find anything on the HGVC website either. Is HGV Max unavailable to resale owners? That might explain why I’ve missed it. If it’s unavailable to resale owners, does that mean that the only way for me to use HGV points to reserve DRI units is through RCI exchanges? Thanks.

My understanding is that you would either need to convert a resale to retail or buy a retail. I think if you own retail, you can just pay the fee to join but, a visit to a sales presentation or a call to HGVC could answer it. Like Nowaker said, there are a lot of unknowns.

I would never trust what a salesman says about resale. They will always try and convince you to purchase retail.

The wording certainly has wiggle room on if pre-existing resale owners will be able to buy-in or not.

It is hard for me to imagine they will not give us (previous resale owners) a "once in a lifetime opportunity" to pay $7,000 to get in.

I could care less if they do or not. I would pay $500 to get in. I might talk myself into paying up to $1k. I have absolutely no interest at $7k.

I suspect the reason it is priced at $7k is they want to talk up what a value it is to those making new purchases or upgrading ownership. I don't expect many people will buy it a la carte.

I believe that resales purchased direct through HGVC, which would qualify towards Elite, would also allow for upgrade to Max but if all resales were purchased through third party brokers, then I don't believe that Max purchase would be allowed.

Read the email this AM and the FAQ on the website.

Not allowing resale owners to join is a slap-down to those owners, but also means retail owners won't be able to pass on their Max status if/when they sell to third parties.

As others said, I'm not gonna give HGVC any more $$ to get 6m access to DRI resorts.
I simply see to need to participate in this money grab.

I own a resale week with HGV Club. Am I eligible for the HGV Max program?
Resale weeks are not eligible for HGV Max program benefits. However, there are other options for you to access the new membership program. Please fill out our Inquiry Form and someone from HGV will follow up with more details about your existing ownership and how you can access HGV Max benefits.

Tend to agree, what are they going to do about owners such as myself that bought retail but will probably purchase next time off the open resale market. Or for that matter those that already own retail and resale. As I said I am still investigating the program as I only received the info/update on the program yesterday.

From what I have read, it appears that as long as you own retail, there are options for you but in the FAQs it did say that there were options for resale owners also. I assume that would be trading in a resale for a retail.

Yeah, the $7000 initiation fee is like the medium sized drink or fries. They price it in a way to make it so you just buy the large and they make more money for not much more cost. They never really intend for anyone to buy it.

Thanks for all the good info! After posting my original message I received an email from HGVC announcing the program. Few details were provided, but I filled out the inquiry form and expect to (eventually) get a customized response for my situation (I assume they have labor shortages like everyone else, so it may take a while). It will be very interesting to see what comes back.

I.E. resale can join max by upgrading/ buying more points from the sales office. Still don’t see the value in max…why wouldn’t I take my $7k plus fees and buy a resale in Diamond if that’s where I wanted to go? Why would I pay $8-9k to join Max and still have the same number of points?

Resale weeks are not eligible for HGV Max program benefits.

When considering eligibility, it means one already met all the requirements - but one may still need to prove your eligibility by showing certain documentation or simply making an inquiry. That's how any law works - federal immigration law, Texas concealed carry licensing, or commercial contracts or rules.

Therefore, I do not see "Resale weeks are not eligible for HGV Max" as "resale owners cannot pay up $7k to join HGV Max".

As is right now:

1. Members who purchased from HGV sales center after April 4th are HGV Max automatically.
2. Members who purchased from HGV between January 15th and April 4th are eligible to join HGV Max.
3. Members who purchased resale - are not eligible to join - but fill out Inquiry Form
4. Members who purchased from HGV on January 14th or before - nothing said about eligibility - but fill out Inquiry Form

In my understanding, (3) and (4) are equal. Retail purchasers on January 14th or before are equally ineligible to join HGV Max. They're in the same bucket as resale owners, and have to become eligibible for HGV Max by performing a qualifying activity - either a retail purchase, or pay $7k.

My guess: HGV Marketing just doesn't want to admit that resale and retail <= Jan 14th are in the same bucket, and don't fully define what the "eligibility" is for retail <= Jan 14th owners.

Whether this holds true, we will see.

My thoughts:

1) You are probably right;

OR

2) numbers 3 and 4 are in the same bucket and they will on the down low take our $7k and sign us up ..... but do not want to post on the website an alternative to making a developer purchase to get HGV Max

----------------------------------
I have no doubt we will figure out on TUG how this works.

But I cannot figure out why anyone would pay $7k for HGV Max, especially with so much still unknown.

It is the timeshare equivalent of vaporware (vaporshare anyone?) at this time.

I have interpreted this as:
- resale - needs to "upgrade" to a retail to join Max
- retail purchase before January 14th - pay $7k to join Max
- retail purchase between January 14th and April 4th - Max is free but you must opt in
- retail purchase after April 4th - Automatically in Max for free

That is a reasonable interpretation. But there is some reason the folks at HGVC decided to launch this using language with wiggle room that is subject to interpretation. I am jaded enough to be a bit suspicious.

When I was looking at the "upgrade" of my resale Blvds to Kohala retail, it would have given me Max for free...according to the sales rep and preferred + so that is where I am pulling the resale assumption from. That was one of his main sales points but who knows what is really true.

Yep. It's as if...
These kind folk (sarcasm) will now light the way to the promised land.

All they're going is adding lounge chairs to the back pool deck.
But at least payment is optional.
