I live in a small town about 20 miles north of New York City.

Notices have been posted that the Property Brothers from the HDTV show will be in our area for several months this summer and are seeking applications from home owners who would be willing to have their home renovated and have the project broadcasted on tv.

We have been seriously considering making renovations to our Sears Craftsman home that was built in 1931. We have lived here since the mid 1980's.

I'm wondering if any TUG members, or people whom they know, have been on this show.

The application papers are very detailed--they go on and on for several pages. But we seem to meet all the requirements re: financing, availabiliity etc...

Do it immediately ... fill out the paperwork, get an idea as to WHAT they will cover & who pay what ... there will not doubt be a LONGER LINE the longer you wait.

When I did the Solar Panels years ago, I thought. .. really, FREE 50% GRANT money for the job??? REALLY ... no income limits or even tax returns qualifying? Free STATE MONEY - no payback? Guess what it was FREE money!

JUMP ON IT .. does not mean YOU have to do it! And you and Charlie would make a DREAM COUPLE for the interviews ... Charlie is sharp looking and articulate ... you have visions for the home.

I would do it without any hesitation if they ever come to my area.
All those hgtv remodels are beautiful.

I'd do it the moment I saw the advertisement. We watch the show, and the remodels--and their catering to the owner's vision of what the house needs to be--are impressive.

I have not been on this show but I have been on another reality show that included interior design. Overall I think the experience was interesting and worthwhile. It's very possible you that if you were selected you'd like the outcome and it would be great. They will want people who are flexible, not picky, have an interesting story, and the house has "good bones."

Let me just share a few tidbits from my experience:
- Everything will run late. Everything. The'll tell you "meet us at 4pm" and then they won't film until 9pm.
- They will be very messy in some area that won't be on camera. For example, our episode you'd think we didn't have an office. Well, that's because the office was used by them to store their equipment and it's where they crammed everything of ours that they didn't want on screen. It took me weeks to clean it all up - candy wrappers, condoms (they claimed they were good for the mics), all sorts of weird stuff was in there from them.
- You may have to wear the same outfit multiple days because they will edit it together to make it look like everything was filmed the same day. I expected this so I bought two of the same shirt in preparation. I was glad I did.
- A lot of what gets filmed won't be in the final cut.

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas...

This is very similar to what I heard from a colleague who was on a reality TV remodeling show.

Ken,
GREAT CATCH!

Best surprise outburst laugh I have had in awhile!

VegasBella,

Really, you brought that line and you live in Sin City? Let me guess - where they the pre-lubricated type? - would that void the microphones' warranty?

I've been a bit disappointed in HGTV lately. I liked some shows that have disaapeared:
Curb Appeal, Holmes Makes It Right, etc.

Now, maybe they should rename it Scott Brothers TV.
They got a racket... one makes a R/E commission and the other a profit on the remodel.

But at least they are both likeable, they don't tear each other down, and they're not bad to look at.

Me, too! I live in Pine Bush, NY! Wish they would come to my house and fix it up! Been remodeling for the past 4 years and just have another year to go- living room and study!

Jonathon and Drew aren't the only ones on HGTV. We watch several HGTV shows. One of our favorites on HGTV is "Fixer Upper" with Joanna and Chip Gaines. We also like "Flip or Flop" and several others.

Did you see their 5000+ sq. ft. home they did in Las Vegas? We watched it being done and it is pretty impressive, especially the huge water slide. That is their own home.

We wouldn't hesitate to have them do a house for us.

Yes, I saw that house. Wow!

I do like "Fixer Upper" as well. Really like Chip and Joanna.

Don't like the "Flip or Flop" couple, but I do watch the show. And Nicole Curtis, of Rehab Addict, drives me nuts.

I like the various house hunting shows as well.

I tend to watch while I'm working out at the gym. They are easy shows to start watching in the middle and quit before the end. Most of the time I don't care what happens to these people.

I watch "Flip or Flop" cuz Tarek's wife is nice eye-candy...

In all these shows (except maybe "Rehab Addict"), they always run into some unexpected expense which throws them for a loop ("Love or List It" is particularly bad about this). I can't believe that they did do an inspection and knew about it all along, or that they did not have a contingency-budget. But of course, they tell the owners to act surprised or disappointed.

Our neighbors house as on DIY Mancave. It was about two weeks of work/filming.

Agree. Really miss Candace Olsen..

Disappointed

I filled out a ton of papers and was notified that they are actually looking for owners who are planning to renovate their home to sell it, and then purchase another home in the same county--preferably one also needing undating.

They will keep our info on file for possible future episodes. They said that the financial and other info we submitted would definitely gualify us.

Missing shows...

I think that HGTV no longer has enough variety and the same shows, though I like some of them, are on too often and repeated over and over again. Some of the shows that are no longer on were produced in Canada like like Sarah 101 (Sara Richardson), Candice Olson's show, Mike Holmes and others. I miss the days when there were more interior designer shows as well as landscaping shows.

I like Chip and Joanna as well, but they do not face the same challenges as Tarek and Christina. Chip and Joanna are working in Waco, Texas, a much lower priced community than Orange County, California. They are not investing (risking) their own funds. When they run into a snag they just call the client and get more funds. There is definitely more human interest because they show the new family in the home, super appreciative and suitably bowled over. They like to goof around and it does make for entertainment TV. However the couple on Flip or Flop is working under more challenging conditions. They are risking their own funds. They have to first acquire a suitable property for rehab. When they run into a snag they are visibly worried because it affects the overall goal of their endeavor which is to make a profit. They have much more on the line. And their end product is usually stunning. One of my favorite rehabbers is Nicole Curtis because she actually preserves historic homes from the wrecking ball. And her projects are always interesting. She takes on some incredible challenges with foundations and historic homes cut up into duplexes, but her homes are always stunning in the end. She is not on as much anymore and I miss her. And the Property Brothers are only getting more interesting. They have a winning formula and I can see why HGTV is expanding the franchise.
