Hertz Car Rentals through Marriott

Just got an email today with a new offer, don't know if it's targeted but you can try the link:

Hertz Special Offer
… Up to 35% off and up to 5,000 Marriott Rewards points!

Use Marriott discount CDP 154080 every time you rent with Hertz and save up to 35%. Plus, now through April 30, 2014, rent any car at participating Hertz locations in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia and New Zealand and earn:
2,000 Marriott Rewards points on rentals of 2-4 days
5,000 Marriott Rewards points on rentals of 5 or more days ...

We booked a Hertz rental via Priceline for an April trip...

... since the price was so much better than either Costco (for other rental car companies) or via the Hertz link with the Marriott discount code....

We are thinking we might still be able to get the MR points with that PC code since the rental is still through Hertz, but I guess we'll see when we get there...

We were surprised at the big difference in price (~200 verses 400 or 480 using the other links) and I am still wonderiing if there will be additional taxes and charges beyond the quote, when we arrive...Again, I guess we will see when we arrive....

Anyhow, I thought I would post this as an FYI to others (re big price difference). Also FYI - our April trip is to Marriott Oceana Palms (so PBI) mid April - total stay 6 nights.

Another discount offer, for "vehicles picked up through 12/31/14":

Marriott Rewards Hertz Promotion
As a Marriott Rewards member, save up to 35% and get more Marriott Rewards points when you rent any Hertz vehicle in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Europe, Mexico, New Zealand and Puerto Rico through December 31, 2014.

Earn 2,000 points on a rental of 2 to 4 days
Earn 5,000 points on a rental of 5 days or more

MAKE YOUR HERTZ RESERVATION ONLINE. USE DISCOUNT CDP#154080, PC#196851 AND YOUR MARRIOTT REWARDS NUMBER WHEN MAKING RESERVATIONS.

Like all the other Hertz offers, I'm not saying this is the best you can get. :)

I enjoy using Priceline for car rentals on vacation. It always tends to be cheaper based on my experience. Some of the bidding forums can give you a view into what are acceptable recent bids from major locations. I recall paying $10/day for a compact in Hawaii one year, and ended up with a convertible because they ran out of compacts. What a great deal!

Rental in Phoenix

Based on the this thread, I checked on a Hertz full size car for airport pick-up in Phoenix for March 2015. I had already booked Budget through Costco ( 1 week).

Hertz was $546 total for a full size.
Budget ( through Costco) was $219 TOTAL ( including all those Phoenix airport taxes) !!!!!

Not a good deal from Hertz as I see it.

I believe the Hertz offer was through the end of the year, so anything in 2015 may not have been discounted.

I compared the Hertz deal to my Costco 2 week rental with Alamo in Sept 2014. Hertz was $200.00 more for a full size car

Yep, there is a cost for those extra reward points in there. If a consumer is looking for the lowest price, then using Hertz with a Marriott Promo is usually not the way to go.

Its been my experience that I can usually find much better rates from other affinity programs for rental cars. I average about 20-25 rentals a year for business.

How does this work? I tried checking the price, but the instructions say:

USE DISCOUNT CDP# 154080, PC# 196851 AND YOUR MARRIOTT REWARDS NUMBER WHEN MAKING RESERVATIONS.

I can enter the CDP#, the PC#, but there's no place to enter my MR#. Then it gives me an error saying there's additional information that is needed.

You don't need the MR number. The CDP (Corporate Discount Plan) i.e. Marriott and PC (Promotional Plan) numbers are all that is needed.

It didn't work for me. Maybe the location I was trying to use it for didn't allow the discount, then. This is what I get:

The Promotion Coupon you've selected - {0} is not available for this rental either because that location isn't participating or some requirement for the offer hasn't been met. We have removed the Promotion Coupon from your request to provide you with the best rate. There may be other offers in the Special offer section which do apply, so you could check there for an alternative. [DRX141]

I seem to get that error message every time, no matter which location I choose. I just assumed it was because I didn't enter my MR#

I used to rent all cars via Budget and I have a Business customer code # from them. However Enterprise has been unbeatable the last 2 years with onsite car rentals at airports. I have given them that data when they asked and they have not been able to match.
I will try the Hertz offer they sent me but I do not believe it will amount to anything and you will be paying for the points, which are not really worth much anymore anyway with the Marriott inflation formula:shrug:

Once again Priceline/Hertz reigns supreme for us!

We were able to reserve a car via Priceline, an excellent deal - to pick up a Hertz rental car in Los Angeles location (we will be there for a wedding) and will drop off at LAS Vegas airport 11 days later. We were able to apply this promotion CDP as well as a Hertz $25 off coupon and the total cost was 445! This price was (several hundred dollars better) than the Costcos quote we got, or than using the link for the Hertz/Marriott promotion. In this (priceline reservation) case, there seems to be no cost overage due to having different pickup/dropoff location!

We used this same combo/priceline&hertz for a rental in West Palm Beach this past April and though the pickup was a bit confusing (cab ride required from and to airport) we definitely saved 200-300 dollars over the equivalent onsite airport rental.

We will always check Priceline rental car pricing and we have had the best luck with their quotes via Hertz, which has encouraged us to join the Hertz Gold Plus rewards program.

I am getting an error every time I go onto the Hertz website using the Marriott promo code. Says the code has expired. Has anyone received a new code?

I am a frequent Hertz user and am a gold acct member. I highly recommend becoming a gold member if you are going to use Hertz it is free and you can bypass the counter and go right to your car 90% of the time. If you don’t have a coupon code use AAA in the 50+ times I have rented from hertz (work and pleasure) I have never been asked to show my AAA card which I do have. The usual discount for AAA is 10 to 20% depending on the type of car, area and date.
