I have always used the free version of TapaTalk on my iPhone, but recently the advertising has become overwhelming and some of the Ads are very sexual. Has TapaTalk changed? If I purchase TapaTalk Pro, is it Ad free? Alternatives?

curious if the ads are from tapatalk (which I assume)...or regular TUG google ads. i hope the former as members should not see any ads when logged in!

also fairly certain we have those specific ad categories blocked via google so they shouldnt appear even for guests or non logged in members!

yea, that appears to be within tapatalk itself vs anything served up by TUG.

based on the tapatalk forums, the app has seen a significant increase in ads since april or may....there is talk that the forum owner can pay to have them all disabled? ill look into that.

also does mention that upgrading to "pro" will remove all the ads from your app.

@DeniseM I pay for Tapatalk Pro and do not see any ads. I have it on my Andriod, but presume it's the same for iOS.

That would be AWESOME! Currently, some of the Ads automatically enlarge to full screen, and I can't close them for 5 seconds, or until the Ad plays - like YouTube Ads.

This may be a silly question? But I have avoided using tapatalk on my phone. I just go straight to chrome. What is the advantage or the upside of using tapatalk?

its designed to make it easier to navigate online forums on a phone or other small screen.

though xenforo itself does a pretty good job at its on mobile format compared to other older forum software etc.

think its probably more whatever you are most comfortable using to browse etc. and it requires the forum you are visiting to have the tapatalk plugin installed for it to even work.

ive done a ton of trimming on the ads on the forums (had no idea tapatalk was that bad with them) that has cut the revenue made of google ads by nearly 70%.

that said, I almost consider it a win as it means far more people are finding what they are looking for on the forum, vs clicking an ad and going elsewhere!

I appreciate everyone who supports the site in any capacity, but i just cant stand sites where ads are super annoying and have no desire to turn TUG into one!

I believe there may be other changes made by Google AdSense that has cut ad revenue for a lot of websites.

I just figured it was me disabling all the super intrusive ad types they offer now with the "auto ad" system. I often times browse the site on my own phone or tablet or similar not signed in to see what it looked like and at one point they were everywhere.

I want people to come for the content, not click on an ad.

does not appear any google ads will appear for anyone browsing via tapatalk and all those ads they displayed were earning money for tapatalk, not TUG!

Many Thanks @TUGBrian!! Like others I have felt that Chrome has given me the experience I needed (wanted) from TUG. Now (maybe) I'll give TapaTalk a try. As long as there's a way to back out and see TUG the 'old' way.

yes im pretty sure its not a one way deal, though id probably have to look inside the app to see how to go back to viewing it using your web browser.

suppose one could always just uninstall tapatalk if you didnt like it and it would go back to browsing via chrome!

I also disabled (or at least I think I did) the prompt that asks you at the beginning if you want to view the site using chrome/safari/etc or tapatalk...hopefully noone sees that anymore either!

I use Tapatalk at night on my older iPad and the ads have become so bad, it basically freezes the app or causes it to crash entirely. Difficultly scrolling, etc—very frustrating! Glad to know it isn’t just me. Thanks for paying for the upgrade, @brian! Tonight, I thought that Tapatalk had made a change, but it was TUG to the rescue all along! $$$ well-spent. :)

You can certainly continue to use TUG in a browser on mobile. You may just get a small popup asking if you would rather use TapaTalk. I see that and I don't even have TapaTalk installed on my device.
