We have points in a holding account that expire Dec. 2020 ( we do not intend to travel until 2021). I thought that if I made a reservation and then cancelled a few days later the points would be extended to 2021. A Marriott supervisor said that if I book with holding points, I can not cancel. I am confused. Is this true? Thanks for any help!

Total BS. You can cancel a ressie booked with Holding Account Points.

I have done exactly as you said, I extended my 2020 holding account points to end of 2021 using the same method. Worked fine. At least one other has done the same. The rep is simply wrong, you can do this. I suppose you couldn't cancel a reservation with a check in date of today, so, you could say there is a case where they are right.

Make the reservation on mvci.com. Later, call and cancel.

Worked for me too.
You need to make the reservation for less than 60 days from now and then cancel it (I was able to cancel by chat) and the points go into a holding account with the 2021 expiry.

Do these points have 120 days instead of 60 to redeem?

Just this afternoon I did the "Puck Trick" with 120 day holding account points. I am within 60 days, cancelled my ressie and the points went back into the holding account. Rebooked with the lower amount of required points and the remainder is in a 120 holding account with December 2021 expiration.

Keep doing it in the future too. Never give up on it working, check daily if you have to. It's one of the best features!

For doing this does it have to be exactly 60 days or less, I never remember!

Depends on your ownership level, some are 30, some can't.

Where is Puck? I remember him from back in the day! What is his handle "PUCKFAN? " He was an ER doc if I recall?

Let me make sure I get this right - if I have 4400 points in a holding account from a pre-covid cancellation if I book them now, then cancel - I get the extra Covid time to the end of 2021?

Did not work for me - the points went back into my 2020 holding account.
