Tuggers - desperately need an expert to sort this out :wall: We received an email from CarRentals.com showing a company both at Fort Lauderdale and Miami airports called Carl's. Their rates for two week economy rental in February 2009 (incl. taxes) were FLL $596 and MIA$884.

1. Any Tugger ever use eithe CarRentals.com or Carl's rental cars?

2. Is Carl's rental counter at each of the two airports? Anything fishy with this company?

We have an unusual situation.

We originally had frequent flyer flights LAX to FLL confirmed and American Airlines discontinued non-stop FLL. We changed to non-stop lax/MIA but we had originally had one night hotel reservations near FLL airport with Marriott points, so we kept that.

We also kept the original car reservation with National ($377 incl fees) for the two week rental at FLL -- are we crazy doing that???? We will have to catch a shuttle from MIA to FLL, then rent the car, then go to the Marriott at FLL airport for a night -- then drive to Marathon, Florida for a week and then on to Key West.Return to home -- reverse same thing including staying in hotel overnight.

Summary: The National car rental two weeks seems cheap ($377), the hotel both nights is on points, but the drag is having to take the airport shuttle from Miami to Fort Lauderdale and then rent the car -- and doing the same when we go home. Your comments/advice? O:)

I recently was in Miami. I reserved my full-size car through Priceline.com with an offer of $15.00/day which was accepted. I have always used Priceline for rental cars, never paid more than $17.00/day anywhere and have never had any problems with pick-up.

Have you contacted National to see what they would charge to change the picklup/dropoff to MIA? They are located at both airports. I have never heard of the outift you mentioned. We always used Avis when fyling in and out of both MIA & FLL.

Good Luck with your car.

Good idea. I did go online and pretend I was someone else and National's rate was $1000+ about 2 months ago.

Is there a shuttle between those two airports?

I have never heard of Carl's Car Rental. When I went to Car rental.com, all they showed from Carl's were Vans and Minibuses. Here is a link I found for Carl's http://www.carlsvanrentals.com/index.html

I'd check it out more. Possibly calling the company directly and ask what type of car,e tc.
