I went to see what I could exchange into in Hawaii and this is what came up for 2013. It shows most of them starting in April and so on :

Lahana,Hi
HOK,KAH,KVV,SOK

Kihei, Hi
MBN,MBV

I have no idea if one is better than the other. And I have been on the review board and some of these resorts have not been up dated in a while on their reviews.
So We like to keep this simple just HD and me - no kids, were retired , we like to walk on the beach and to local restaurants and do a little local shopping. I like to cook in the villas, so a store must be close by. I will have to rent a car( I don't want to but finding out it's a must). If you have been to any of these places , please let me know which you like or disliked for that matter. Thank you for taking the time .

Remember that the online inventory is the leftovers after all the on-going requests have been filled. That's why you didn't see the Starwood resorts.

As a Starwood owner you have priority for Starwood to Starwood trades, so a better strategy would be for you to use your SDO week to put in and on-going request for the Starwood timeshares. Starwood and Marriott are consistently the highest rated Maui timeshares in II:

Marriott - Lahaina & Napili Villas - 9.42

WKORV - 9.34

WKORV-N - 9.21

Wyndham Founder; Disney OKW & SSR; Marriott's Willow Ridge,Shadow Ridge,Grand Chateau;Val Chatelle; Hono Koa OF (3); SBR(LOTS), SDO a few; Grand Palms; WKORV-OF (2),Westin Desert Willow.
My first choice would be Sands of Kahana. Good oceanfront and ocean view units. I like the decor (own there myself). There is a beach and really nice grounds (although there are a lot of feral cats in the bushes). There is an elevator.

My second choice would be Hono Koa. I also own there and most units have some kind of ocean view, specifically a lot of the Friday check-ins are better views. There is an elevator and it's four stories tall. No beach. Love the units' interiors.

My third choice would be Kahana Beach. I would try for a 1 bedroom over a studio because the one bedrooms are very large and have incredible ocean views (not a nice beach, but some don't have beaches, so beggars cannot be choosers).

My fourth choice would be a 2 bed at Kahana Villas, and there is a set of stairs on the interior, so the units are very large. There is a peek of an ocean view from every 2 bedroom, but it's across the street from SOK, and that is where the beach is.

The Kihei resorts are also nice and I would take either one of those, but I would take the above first because I like Lahaina more than Kihei (only slightly).

All of these are managed by Consolidated.

I'll be using my 1 bedroom- Larger side of my SVR L/O , that I have in II.
Hopefully it will pull a 1 bedroom with a full kitchen.

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I muddle though all of this. Thanks again:hi:

What are your thoughts on Marriott's Ko Olina (MKO , MK1). Which of these do you like.

KoOlina is a fantastic resort off the beaten path of Honolulu.
Also consider Marriott's Waiohai (MAW), it is one of Marriott's highest rated resorts.

Marriott owners have priority for trades into Marriott timeshares. That means that for the first 30 days after a Marriott is deposited, you, as a Starwood owner, can't trade into it. You are only eligible for the leftovers, after all Marriott owners get their trades.

Your SVR week's real strength is trading into Starwood resorts - it will not have nearly the same trading power outside Starwood. Especially since it's a Florida week - it doesn't have as much trading power as your SDO week.

You have a much higher probability of success for Starwood to Starwood trades.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse here, so let me ask: Are you specifically trying to avoid the Starwood Hawaii resorts? Your trading power is the most important factor in making an exchange - it isn't the same as just making a reservation. You can only trade for resorts that you have enough trading power for.

This is how I see it - you have a strong Starwood trader, so these are the 3 basic categories you are looking at and your trading power for each:

1. 3 Starwood Resorts - (strong trading power) easy trade for you - top rated resorts

2. Mid-to lower range resorts - (medium trading power) there are some nice resorts in this category, but not as highly rated as Starwood or Marriott, and you don't have the Starwood to Starwood priority for trades. So yes, you can trade in, but the quality will be 1-3 steps down from Starwood & Marriott. With a Florida deposit, you may not have the trading power you need for some resorts.

3. Marriott - (low trading power) the most difficult trade for you, because you aren't a Marriott owner.

So what I'm saying is that trading into all 3 categories is possible, but some trades are a lot less likely, because there are big differences in your trading POWER for each group, so that's an important consideration.

DeniseM,
Wow odd comment(beating a dead horse). No I don't have a problem with Hawaii Starwood's. I was just checking out my options. I'm ending this subject for my own reasons.

Maggiesmom, I think we have a misunderstanding here: I was referring to me "beating a dead horse" - not you. In other words, I didn't want to keep telling you to go for a Starwood trade, if you were trying to avoid it for some reason.

I absolutely meant no offense - I was just trying to determine what your trading goals are, and if you understand the trading power of your deposit.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like.

Beating a dead horse (idiom): To persist or continue far beyond any purpose, interest or reason.
