 With all the distressful news on various airlines, I did a recheck on what inventory we had in various airline frequent flyer programs. We use American Airlines almost exclusively and have been fairly satisfied with getting our seats to Hawaii, Mexico and Carribean.

Here are two oddballs that we have around 15,000-20,000 miles when we combined husband and wife's ffmiles and miles will be expiring around October:

1. Delta:

a.Is it true we can transfer Delta miles to Alaska Airlines?

b.Can we combine husband and wife's Delta miles into one that is enough for Hawaii? We found getting ffmile seats on Delta quite difficult. :bawl:

c.Have other Tuggers found the same problem?

2. United: How easy is it to get Hawaii economy class in June/July if you call right at the eleven month out rule?

Are there other Programs I can research to better use these miscellanous airline programs' miles? Open to any suggestions and TIA! :)

Cathy,

Transfering miles between H and W accounts is possible but the charge for doing so is about .01 cents per mile. Buying miles from the respective airlines in either or both programs and either or both accounts would be .02-.03 per mile. Buying miles would be activity and would extend the life of your current miles.

If you try to transfer between Delta and United you will lose most of the miles in transfer even if you can find a way to do so.

I am not an expert on availability. I am a fairly last minute planner. In Jan 2007 Delta had lots of F available LAX to HNL for the dates I wanted.

This year 2 coach FF tickets LAX to Syd about 3 weeks before departure on United.

On one hand airlines are cutting schedules and on the other had people are cutting back on travel so it is hard to predict what availablity will be for any route.

Thanks Short :)

Hi Cathy,

The best use of these orphan miles may to acquire your inter-island airfares on HA. As the price of inter-island travel increases, so will the value of these miles.

Aloha Lynne -- great idea! Cathy
