You can withdrawal your bid through E-Bay, but you must immediately put in the corrected bid amount. Though with bidding closed, that can't happen. You can just back out as a TS auction is non binding. It was an honest mistake.

email the seller and say you don't want it

ebay timeshare bids are non-binding - no negative feedback allowed by the seller, you don't need a reason although giving one doesn't hurt, just do it right away so maybe the seller can do a second chance offer to the next highest bidder.

I tried that - but it was too late. See - there was 4 minutes left. It showed 1600 or so. I put in 1900 - but accidently put in 19000. Well - instead of winning at 19000, I won at 3860. How did that happen? I wrote to the seller immediately - and again this morning.

What are my recourses? I hate to do anything unethical - so not me - but it was a total accident!

If someone had places a bid for $18000 you would have probably been paying $19000. Your bid will only increase by the set increment above the next highest bid.

I looked at the history. I am not an ebay savy type - but it seems as though there were visible bids up to 1700 or so. Then there were 2 invisible bids - the last one 3800. So when I bid 19000, it must have bumped me to 3860.

So the question remains - what do I do? I don't have that money - I wanted to get something under 2K - thought it was a great deal.

I am feeling horrible because the thought of not honoring it is like breaking my word - something I don't make a practice of.

As was already stated in an earlier post...BIDS ON TIMESHARES ARE NON-BINDING, which means they can't force you to buy it even when you have the winning bid.

You already e-mailed the seller and they will likely get back to you today, and then offer it as a 2nd chance offer to the next highest bidder you aced out at their highest price.

Don't sweat it.

Because of seller abuses of the past, ebay doesn't let sellers post negative feedback against buyers so they can't post bad things about you on your feedback rating...you'll be fine.

Okay - thanks. Now I can go to work. Thank you so much.

I believe an offer to buy real estate has to be written to be binding and Ebay bids are not considered written offers. I'm not a lawyer but I remember this from an old business law class.

To update you - I emailed him (via ebay) 5 times. I emailed right after the click (during the auction, albeit in the last minute or so) and since then - that day and yesterday. No response. I guess he isn't wasting his time on me. Or maybe he'll write today. He's a big resaler - has a whole store of auctions, so I'm a small fish.

Thanks for all your responses. I'll be more careful in the future!

I could be out in left-field about this, but I'm told that some sellers conspire to have an associate keep bidding up an item to find the highest "real" bid or get a bidder so hooked that they'll go far beyond fair-value. Then, after the auction's over and their "friend" won, they'll offer the last real-bidder a 2nd chance.

Of course, that doesn't apply to honest mistakes, or honest sellers.

I had my sister playing around on my ebay account and she bought a week 52 at Myrtle Beach for $1. I noticed this before the auction ended, actually called the seller(had his # listed). Since I definately didn't want the week, I offered to pay his relisting fees(well, sister did).

He was very accomodating and didn't seem all that bothered by it. Left me postive feedback even though I didn't buy the week.

I have changed my ebay password, so this doesn't happen again.

Well Ellen, looks like you are in the clear. I believe the seller relisted the week you had won.
