Headed to Massanutten in ten days. Never been there. What do I need to know? I think I read somewhere they do not provide hairdryers. Anyone know? What are the must-dos? Must-eats? Must-sees? TIA!

Headed to Summit at Massanutten - what do I need to know?

Massanutten Activites
Are you bringing kids? The outdoor pool at Woodstone just opened, but Woodstone is a ways from the Summit units. The indoor pool at Leclub is closer to you.
The Waterpark is always fun if you have kids (a little pricey, so make sure to ask if they are running any discounts. They did a Kroger card discount last year.)
There are great hiking trails. The grass tubing should be open by your trip.
The golf courses look better than I have ever seen them.
And of course, Shenandoah National Park is always a great side trip.
And finally, make sure to bring some bug spray as the knats can be bothersome.

First go to massresort.com - print out the June activity schedule and discount info = then figure out if it would be worth getting activity cards. My husband and I ALWAYS get the cards, definately has saved us money each time. And we take advantage of the freebies when we go outside the resort sightseeing - Shenandoah Caverns, Hall of Valor, Frontier Culture Museum all have been free with the card. Also the wine tours were great. Magician show and Comedy show we have seen numerous times - and will also see in June AND August when we go. There is plenty to do, the activity schedule really will come in handy (especially if you have children or crafters with you)

No, just four adults ready to get away from it all - no kids. Wine tours are sounding good at this point.

There is a Food Lion very close to the resort. We always skip that and go to Harrisonburg and shop at the SuperWalmart. We always stop on the way for lunch, have dinner at Massanutten and bring enough from home to get us through breakfast the first morning.
Grocery Stores & Dining
Martin's is my favorite grocery store. It is in Harrisonburg about 10 miles from Massanutten right on Hwy 33. Great produce, fresh meats, desserts and more.
As far as restaurants, there is a relatively new one in Court Sq in Harrisonburg called Downtown 51 that is great for adults, great atmosphere and wonderful food. Other than that you have pretty much the basics, Chilis, Applebees, Outback. The new Texas Roadhouse has best steaks in town.
Italian place called Romanos at the bottom of the mountain has good food and decent pricing.
Other places close to Massanutten, are more comfort food places, like Roosters (frog legs, open faced roast beef sandwich, fried chicken, Bubba burgers) and Log Cabin BBQ (great ribs!!)

If the amish store is still there it's interesting and the food is great. Go to Luray Caverns. We hiked to a waterfall in Elkton ( I couldn't do it now, too steep!!) shaggy

One thing I would suggest is to bring a decent frying pan/griddle - I have never been particularly happy with the ones provided at Massanutten. I keep one of each in my "Massanutten" kitchen bag so I do not forget them.
After several trades into Massanutten, I would say that they are among the most aggressive sales forces that I have encountered. When you check in, you do all the regular stuff, then you have to go to a separate desk to pick up your parking pass. This is also where you register for your courtesy gift/free lunch/survey/etc or whatever they are calling it now. After a few times of trying to just get our parking pass without scheduling anything and being harassed, we started just scheduling whatever they wanted, then unplugging the phone and using our cell phones instead. Lots less stressful vacation.

We have been to Mass-of-Nothin' a few times.
Time share sales force = jerks. I like mrrick's idea of unplugging the phones in the timeshare.
Best place by far to buy groceries, beer, and whatever else is the Super Walmart in Harrisonburg. Don't bother with the closer Food Lion as their prices are considerably higher.
If you don't mind excercise, I recommed a trip to the nearby Shenandoah National Park. What we have done in the past is select the shortest hiking trails that take you to a waterfall in the park. At least this way you are awarded with a waterfall for your efforts. Make sure to bring bottled water with you as even the shortest hiking trails in Shenandoah are not exactly a "walk in the park".
Consider visiting the home of one of our greatest presidents ever: Monticello -home of Thomas Jefferson.
We also did the Frontier Culture Museum and that was pretty good too.
The deer are everywhere and are extremely tame. My daughter was feeding one marshmellows and it started to walk up on our deck and I got worried that it was going to walk into our timeshare!
We spent quite a bit of time at the outdoor "Peak" pool with the kids.
