I have a severe - non hangover , ice pick type head ache on the right side temple area. I took asprin and its now dull. I never get headaches like this. Any one have a remedy?

Starting at the inside near your nose, pinch your eyebrows (I put my thumb on the bottom, two fingers on the top). Repeat moving towards the outside of your eyebrows.

Place your index fingers between your jaw joint and the little piece of cartilage in front of your ears and move your jaw up and down.

Have someone massage your neck going upwards to your skull.

Lay down and put a cool cloth across your forehead.

Usually the first action is enough to stop a headache. I move progressively through them until I find relief.

Tried some of the sugestions but in the end it took a few pain pills to numb it a bit. Still feeling it. I have never had a headache like this ever.

Possibly a sinus infection

or a migraine

Were you exposed to any kind of flashing video/lights, etc. before it came on?

I had a cold a month ago and my right ear pluged up like when it does on take off on a plane ride and wouldn't pop. Then after two weeks it poped and I could hear again. Last week I got a cold and woke up with a pluged right ear. Its still pluged. This morning while exercising I had a sharp ice pick head ache.
Maria thinks its a sinus infection. Maybe.

I do too - get to the Dr. - it will only get worse!

I get the same type of headache once in awhile, except the pain goes right through my right eye. The dr. termed it cluster headache. I have prescription medicine, but I have to sleep it off. Then I have a dull headache for a few days before it is all gone.
Good luck.

If you think it's sinus infection and have green 'stuff' coming out, get a Neti Pot. It sounds gross, but you basically hold your head over a sink and run warm saline solution in one nostril, through your sinuses and out the other nostril. Docs recommend it and it WILL relieve the sinus pressure and help you feel better.

If you can't get out, your wife should be able to get one at Walgreens or WallyWorld.

Hope you feel better. I used to get cluster migraines every weekend. They'd end with me bowing to the white porcelain god, puking my guts up, but the headache would go away. Made me want to banish weekends.

There are so many different phrases you can use to discribe your cure. It has always interested me. People say:
  • Driving the porcelain bus
  • Praying to the porcelain god
  • I had to visit my friend "Ralph" or "O'Rourke" (either friend)
  • Hot lunch , guys (this is only for transit operators)

Thought everybody could use a good laugh at this point. The part about "hot lunch" is true, that is how bus drivers say it when they call in with a dirty bus. Honestly.

Seriously, though, if you get another sharp, ice pick type headache, get yourself to the doctor ASAP. It *could* be a TIA or a precursor to a stroke.

I love the Neti-pot for sinus issues.

For headaches, I find the cold compress and laying down to be the best, along with a couple of Advil or similar.

There is a simple remedy.. Take a large hammer and knock yourself on your left temple very very hard.. You'll be surprised how the pain goes away on your right..... Believe me...This truly works...
