I find it ironic that we are talking about cutting back on groceries on a timeshare board. Wouldn't you cut back on your timeshares far before you cut back on groceries?

I think it's more fair to say that people are cutting back on junk food. What happened with cigarettes is now happening with Fritos.

It helps to shop the sales, just bought several half gallons of Bluebell ice cream @ $2.98 and 22 oz bag of tortilla chips for 98 cents at Winnco. BB regular price is $8!

Funny thing about the chips (which are quite good), I'm in Texas and these chips are a brand out of Oregon!

Is this bad?

Could it be the Wegovy? :)

I don't mind a bit of junk food now and again. But not soda. Soda is basically poison. Diet soda is literally poison. But then again, so is alcohol.

The big-picture problem is the utter disconnect most people have with food. It would be one thing if junk was a once-in-awhile treat. (I like crispy-salty things after a hard day beating back the jungle.) Too many people eat nothing but junk. And that leads to a laundry list of health problems.

I have a friend in Florida who is paying the piper for this very thing. He has beaten the "how long do I have left, doc" odds. But only by finally giving up McDonald's, soda, alcohol and eating actual food. It's still only a matter of time.

As for "dieting via injection," I have a feeling that we'll look back on that the same way we look back on "Asbestos fake snow."

Be careful out there buying "ice cream" - I think I recently read that Bluebell is no longer legally "ice cream" with their skimpflation and is now "iced frozen treat".

Yeah, "Frozen Dairy Dessert". So many brands don't use enough cream to qualify as ice cream anymore.

The listeria outbreak wasn't bad enough for their image?

I think that's another brand, though. I'm truly surprised the manufacturers haven't found a way to get the labeling laws changed so that they don't have to use any milk at all. That's the typical solution to this problem.

That may be Blue Bunny, Bluebell is still real ice cream.

Ultimately you are getting what you pay for. Blue Bell is much more expensive than Blue Bunny. One could say that Blue Bunny took a hit because of the listeria woes that Blue Bell had in the mid 2010s.

I suppose I might be "saved" in that we don't buy much boxed ice cream due to the amazing local soft serve place in the summer, and now I also have an ice cream maker attachment for my Bosch Universal Plus stand mixer so. I can just buy heavy cream and milk for close to the boxed costs / cheaper now, and for stuff like Chocolate or Strawberry it's not much for the other ingredients.

I rarely eat ice cream, but when I do, it is Hagen Dazs or slow churned Dreyers.

There is also a 'Breyers' brand ... perhaps the same relationship to Dreyers as Blue Bunny is to Bluebell (lesser product with close name to a better known product)

Breyer's and Dreyer's are different. Dreyer's is the same as Edy's. They just market them differently in different parts of the country. Kind of like Carl's Jr and Hardee's or Checkers and Rally's

We are fortunate to have three great local ice cream options: United Dairy Farmer, Graeter's, and Aglamesis. All three are better than most others and each have their own styles and flavors. Aglamesis is my favorite overall but I enjoy UDF Homestyle Vanilla Bean more for a lighter treat.

Believe it or not I an excited to see at a supermarket Bumble Bee solid white tuna for sale 5 for $5! Haven’t seen that in years! Only thing is I have to drive a half hour to get it!

Where I used to live before the pandemic changed everything I always had a thing about sales on tuna and soda. Have not had any sales on soda since - or what I consider sales - since. I miss my Diet Cherry Pepsi and Diet Cherry Coke.

That's a great price on tuna. Soda prices went nuts in last couple years, not buying at the inflated price. Drinking more h20

Not long ago, name brand soda could be found for $1 for a 2L bottle. Not even close anymore. The best I see lately is $3.69 with a buy two get two free. So four 2L bottles for about $7. That is almost a 100% increase. Good thing we don't drink soda that much anymore. We have an unopened bottle that has been in teh fridge for over three weeks. I had to dump another one that was flat after being opened and unfinished for about the same time.

I make amazing strawberry chocolate chip ice cream with heavy cream, from a local dairy, fresh local strawberries, and semi or dark chocolate chips. It’s my favorite way to preserve that harvest, just above my homemade strawberry jam. :)

Our locally and family-owned regional grocery store chain’s house brand of ice cream is still a half gallon, and contains four ingredients: cream, milk, vanilla, and sugar. It’s a house brand, so it is usually the cheapest as well. :)

I wish we could say the same thing about every item on the shelves.
