Have we become our parents?

My mom liked to say uff da, but it never caught on with us kids.
Does it count if I know who they were? Their shows were on reruns in my town when I was a kid. :)
Dave
Yup, it totally counts! Dave for the win! :ROFLMAO:

I catch myself doing and saying a lot of things that drove me crazy as a kid when my parents did the same.
The top one might be completely cleaning the house before leaving for anything longer than one night.

A few phrases. Off like a terd of hurtles. Patti almost fell out her chair when she first heard me say this phrase because it was one her Dad use to use when she was a Kid. Or do you want Pill Dickles or Pweet Sickles on your Burger?

Have a lot of dyslexia at your house? LOL! :)

Nope. Hasn't happened to me Dave, lol. I was told on the day I was born, the nurses all gathered around, and gazed in wide wonder at the joy they had found. But then the head nurse spoke up and said leave that one alone. She could tell right away, I was bad to the bone. BBBBBad. :ROFLMAO:

Bill
Might I guess that you drink alone? All by yourself? Maybe a bourbon, a scotch, and a beer?

foot tapping. thank you!

"Off like a terd of hurtles" is a phrase that gets repeated every once in a while at our house. Along with going to visiting the fam damily. ;)

Kurt

My wife repeats many things her parents said. When her mom was upset the saying is that it whatever it was is stuck in her craw. Things are occasionally stuck in my wife's craw too. Her dad always wondered what the poor people are doing and occasionally so does my wife.

I hear my kids saying things I use to say to them to their kids. Mostly knock it off, lol.

My Mom used to say something about "not getting yourself bass ackwards." ;)

Oops, wrong thread.

OMG how did I never realize this is where I got it from??? yeah we had to clean before we left on trips as a kid-and now I do it as an adult!
But in the interest of full disclosure, isn't it nice to return home to a clean house?
And along that line of thought, isn't it a bit nicer to get into a made bed when you retire for the evening?

YES! It really is and I appreciate that now as an adult lol. It makes coming home a bit easier too

Why Do We Behave Just Like Our Parents?

Family life is essentially a rehearsal for the next generation. Each generation is another piece in a long chain of life we inherit and pass on to our children.

The way families transmit their traditions and behaviors is through family scripts. These scripts describe the acceptable ways to behave, speak, and even think. It is essentially the shared expectation of how life should be.

Scripts can be as specific as the preferred way to wash the dishes and as big as how we fight or how we express intimacy.

Generally, there are three types of scripts: replicative, corrective, and improvised.

i've started to do the cleaning—and laundry—before we go on a trip too. Not something I got from my mother because she didn't travel butI've discovered I love the feeling of come back and not having to deal with anything for a while.

We always do a complete cleaning before we leave. Our House/Pet Sitter appreciates it. Most times she cleans before she leaves.
