Has anyone used commercial booking sites to rent out their timeshares?

Long story but because my 99 year old mother has some medical issues, I have been unable to travel in the recent past and will be unable to travel for the foreseeable future. But I really don't want to continue to build up my RCI points balance (or whatever their wording is) as it's unlikely that I'll ever work them down before the points expire.

So I'd like to rent my timeshare weeks to others. And yes, I know about Redweek and myresortnetwork...but I have during past decades not been impressed with either. Not only have I had limited success using those sites but they offer no insurance if the guest destroys the space (which would, according to my understanding, be my responsibility). Also, the "no insurance" problem plus potential scams make me reluctant to use Craigslist.

I'm going to try Koala for the first time but I don't think that site gets a lot of traffic. Perhaps I'm wrong about that but I wasn't too impressed with their resort pictures being perhaps multiple years out of date.

Most Airbnb people want to rent for only two or three or perhaps four days at a time so, in my opinion, that's not really the best site for trying to rent an 8 day, 7 night week, not to mention the fact that the high fees airbnb charges the "guest" make it less likely that you can get what you want.

So I'm wondering if anyone has checked with booking.com or hotels.com or expedia.com or even VRBO... or whatever other site..to find out if they'll accept a listing for a single week of the year. And, if so, what their fees might be. Those sites might also attract more shorter term vacationers but the more potential renters, the better. Of course, I could call each of those sites' customer service reps myself (hoping that whomever I talk to would ultimately understand what a timeshare is) but I thought maybe someone else on TUG has already asked those questions so that I wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel. :)

I think this is something you will find with most of the sites. Most rely on the owners to provide photos. Most owners have either never been to their resort or never took photos of the room or resort when they visited to provide to the site. Thus many owners just scrounge up what they can find in a Google search. Which sometimes is just old photos that are also on the timeshare developer's website.

I think for most of these sites, you are going to be on your own to figure out how to create a listing for only the week you have for rent. I know there is some threads on here about how to list correctly on Airbnb so as to not make the calendar wide open when you only have a specific week and checkin day available.

One thing I do is I try to find out where the traveling sport teams are going from my town and let them use it and cover the maintenance fees

Thanks dioxide. Koala uses its own photos so that you can't provide your own (and I have hundreds of photos of the resorts of which I'm an owner). And their photos are indeed old photos that they've found somewhere on the Internet. And since they have absolutely no personal knowledge of the resort, I found nothing but pictures of no balcony studios....despite the majority of units being 1200 plus sq.feet, 2 floor townhouse style, 2 BR, 2 bath, huge balcony units.

I sent koala some of my pictures a week ago, told them to feel free to make use of them, but their website has not changed.

Oh well. :)

anyone can upload resort photos to any/each resort review page, they are all open to the public as well!

I think they do get a good amount of traffic. Give it a try for sure.

@andre10056
What is the resort/week?

If there is a NextDoor (dot) com community forum in your area, also post there in items for sale (free to list, & no commission). I have a friend who has rented her timeshare through ads there

I would of course also suggest posting on TUG2 - heck while you likely won't make a profit, you will be renting to "timeshare knowledgeable" people most likely. I've also seen posts on ebay, though IDK if that would meet your other requirements.
