"when I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when i grew up. I wrote down 'happy', they told me I didnt understand the assignment, and I told them they didnt understand life"
-John Lennon

thanks john, i am

Love this. I teach gifted students. I tell their parents all the time that gifted isn't a promise of good to come. My son is gifted (BRILLIANT!). Being happy -- that's what you want to be when you grow up. The job you get should be one you love - helping to make you happy. My kids and parents and husband make me happy. After them - my job is my happy place. I love teaching.

I'm lucky in that I figured out that Being Happy was the biggest part of 'meaning of life' for me.

Sure, stuff happens, but I have always strived to be "overall happy" and not let the little crap bug me.

I will never understand those that are determined to be nasty, bitter people. They are not keen on optimists like me.

This fits into one of my assignments on choosing a career. I think I'll mention this quote... thanks, I appreciate it.

I realized a very long time ago that every morning when you wake up you are starting a new day and you have a choice to make. It is going to be a good day or it is going to be a bad day. I always pick a good day. No reason not to. Don't sweat the small stuff and give more than you take and things usually end up okay.

I agree that it is a choice, and I also always choose Good Day and then make it so.

MANY years ago I asked my Mother why my Father worked shift work (he was quality control at a plexiglas plant) - did he make more money that way, couldn't he get the 8 to 4 shift? She explained that, because of his seniority, he could indeed get the 8 to 4 and would make more money but....he was HAPPY working shift work and that was very important. She explained that, if you weren't happy in your work, you would dread going every day. Very good life lesson for me.

Happiness is great.
But some of us, in the pursuit of happiness, have to do some grunt work along the way.
Sometimes, paying for the toys we like to bring home means not getting to do just what we want to do.

True, but doing the grunt work to buy the toys makes you appreciate the toys more. That should raise your happiness level, right?

John also said "Happyness is a warm gun".

Its too bad that John was shot down in his prime.

“When I hold you in my arms and I feel my finger on your trigger I know no one can do me no harm because happiness is a warm gun.”
― John Lennon

It does work that way for me. I take care of my things because I know what it took to be able to have them!

My Happy is: Lying on beach (85 degrees and sunny), with my wife and an iced cold beer..
