I thought this was pretty funny:

Grocery store goofs with Hanukkah ham ad
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK -- This was REALLY not kosher.

A grocery store in Manhattan made a food faux pas, advertising hams as "Delicious for Chanukah."

Chanukah - an alternate spelling for Hanukkah - is the eight-day Jewish holiday that began Tuesday evening, and hams - as well as pork and other products from pigs - can't be eaten under Jewish dietary laws.

A woman who saw the mistake over the weekend at the Balducci's store on 14th Street took pictures of the signs and posted them on her blog.

Jennifer Barton, director of marketing, told The Associated Press on Thursday that the signs were changed as soon as the error was noted.

She issued an apology on the company Web site, saying the company would be reviewing its employee training.
How many did they sell?

I saw that. Isn't it incredible? In Manhattan? At Balducci's?

It's fantastic!

Every major TV network in NYC & Philly (well Fox there) gave Balducci at least 3 to 4 minutes of free air ad time.

I hope that stock kid who placed the signs gets a raise! Or a smal part of the store ownership....

They forgot the Roast Pork lo main! Oh shucks!....Sorry, thats Yom Kippur break fast. :)

(And I'm not just speaking for myself, either ).....

When my DH was a kid, his parents drove down to Florida, like so many New Yorkers do for the season. On the way down, they saw a sandwich shop with a huge sign in the window (obviously intended to lure the tourists in):

THE KOSHER SPECIAL
$2.25

Kosher roast beef!

Kosher salami!

Kosher turkey breast!

and

Swiss cheese!

Sorry, I just don't understand. Why is that funny?

Kosher doesn't mix meat and cheese.

I laughed out loud when I saw the title of this thread.

Bill, when you are eating kosher, you can not mix meat with dairy products!

Sorry, I just don't understand. Why is that funny?

Because when you keep kosher, you don't eat meat and dairy products together. Therefore, the "Kosher Special" was more like the "Tref Special".

Bill, you'll notice that most of us who got the joke about the kosher special are huddled over here in the general NYC area (and Ontario and Massachusetts!). That's why it's so INCREDIBLE to us that they would make a mistake like this at Balducci's. In NYC, most people are very familiar with the basics of keeping kosher.
