If I am travelling with guests to the same resort location and have 3 exchanges for 3 rooms would I need guest certificates for the 2 rooms I am not occupying? I will be exchanging through RCI and I believe guest certificates are $79.00 now. Seems like a waste of money to me.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

You shouldn't need the guest certs since you are travelling. I have done this many times and never had to get them for my guests.

It is likely that you will not need them, BUT some resorts can be stinkers and require you to have them. IMHO, your chance of needing them will be greatly reduced if you make sure you are the first to arrive at check in. But, be prepared to get them if the resort requires one.

Good Luck

Unless you tell them, how would they know that the people are not, say, family members with different last names?

Are you checking in for all of them on your credit card (i.e. do you trust your guests to not trash the place?)?

Actually all parties would be family members and some with same last name. Will the resort let me check in 3 rooms at the same time? I probably would have to put the security deposit on my credit card, but not too worried about that. I know where they all live!

By the 'letter of the law' you should have guest certificates for those extra exchanges because you are not occupying all of them. That being said, most resorts will let you check in for all of them and not require a guest cert. Call the resort and talk to the manager or their admin asst, ask the question.

I personally think that any resort that would demand a GC for the other units should be ashamed of themselves. What a pathetic way to make a buck !!

It's RCI that's making the buck, why the resorts do what they do to enforce RCI's rules, I don't know. My home resort doesn't ever require me to get a guest certificate for my guests when I trade in.

The resorts don't make any money off of guest certificates.

I called a resort to ask if I had to get a GC, the resort told me
"We would love to help you.. unfortunately it is written in our contract with RCI that you must get a GC if you are not the one checking in, so we must abide by our contract"

RCI says it protection for you and your guest, but I think its a way to make the extra profit for RCI.

So if they are all on your credit card, NOT your guests' credit cards, then YOU ARE the one checking in, and you shouldn't have to get GCs, if I read that quote right. Maybe you're feeling very special and feel that you, personally, need three units to properly accomodate you and your stuff. Why not? Neither RCI nor the resort should even care, as long as they have someone's credit card to charge damages to.

Good grief, exactly *what* are you getting for that GC? Insurance?

Yeah, I understand the resorts don't get the GC money (that comment was for RCI !!). I just can't imagine any resort stooping low enough to actually enforce that situation, even if they do have an agreement that says such. It's one thing if the member is not travelling, but I think it's a slap in the face otherwise.

No need for GC

I have done serveral times, most resorts do not require GC for guests to check-in. Only one asked for (but did not enforce). You can always call RCI right there to issue GC to fax directly to the resort when this becomes an issue during check-in.
