Hi all! I'm a former owner who still belongs to Interval, and am booking 3 rooms at the Marriott Harbour Lakes for my family + my parents (room 2) and mother-in-law (room 3) this May.

I see there's this requirement for a "Guest Certificate" for $49, but I can't really tell if it applies to our situation, where we'll all checking in at the same time? I'm not too worried about my own parents, as my Dad and I have the same name, and he's even an II member as well, but does anyone have any experience with whether we'd need to get hit up for another $49? Seems like a bogus expense to me, but don't want a hassle at check-in. Any experiences with this?

Many thanks!

If the II member will be there at checkin, no guest certificate is necessary.

No you don't need one. Put all three reservations in you name, or share the MR with one of they guests if they are also MR members.

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
As long as you are there to check in, you shouldn't have any problem checking into the Marriott into multiple units without separate GC's for all the rooms. If the other members of your group arrive first they may not let them check in until you arrive though. Some resort groups like Vida and Wyndham are more particular about GC's even if you are checking in as a group.

Since you will be at the resort at the same time there should be no need for a guest certificate. Just add your guests name to the reservation in addition to your name and it should be fine. We did something like that a couple of years ago and I simply kept all the reservations in my name until the actual check-in. Worked fine.

If this is an II getaway you never need a Guest Certificate. That's only for exchanges. You can book up to 12 getaways for friends and family every year.

I don't think this is correct. There is no way to get the guests name on the reservation without a guest certificate. I have had to pay for a guest certificate for getaways. I have also never hear of a 12 getaway per year limit?

Unless you have a platinum II membership, they do charge $49 for a Guest Certificate on a getaway. I've purchased getaways for family/friends and did have to pay to get the confirmation in their name.

Also, where did you get the idea there is a limit (12) on getaways? I always thought we could book unlimited getaways. I've never booked more than 2-3 per year, so it hasn't been an issue.

Oh dear, I must have messed up on that one too. This is how I understood Getaways. 12 a year and you can book them for friends and family. I thought since they say you can book them for friends and family you could make the reservation in their name. . .unlike exchanges. Sorry I goofed.

As for the OP, I did know he didn't need GC because he would also be at the resort at the same time.

When we first joined II years ago, I asked an II rep a few basic questions and one of them was, "how many Getaways can we buy?" She said there's no set limit but they'll start to look closely at your account if the number reaches 12 in a year, and if it looks like a rental pattern is developing in those then they'll look much more closely. Otherwise, if you're buying them for personal use with friends and family, there's no magic number.
