We'll be staying at Frenchman's Cove in April and I'm looking for any information on what groceries we should use? I appreciate any help.

Pueblo is a fairly standard supermarket and Moe's has more high end goods and prices. But they are close to each other if you want to shop at both. Easy to get a taxi from the resort or if you have a car you can drive.

Groceries re very expensive too with limited selection.
if you have room in your luggage bring snacks, cereal, coffee, etc so you have what you want.

If you have a car and are going to be buying a lot of groceries, it’s worth the trip to Cost u less. They are a cross between a grocery store and a big box store, and have lots of fresh items. Whatever you can’t get there you can get at Pueblo.

Thank you everyone for the responses. Yes, I will be renting a car.

We preorder our groceries at Cost U Less. If we forgot anything one of us will shop for it while the other waits for the pick up order.

Our choice is The Market in Tutu area, it's just past Cost U Less where we shop also. Have not used Pueblo in years, was in it last year when friends wanted something thought it's prices were higher then the Market, which is a nicer store imo.

Also there is a Moe's and the Gourmet Galley in Havensight, for anything you can't find elsewhere, a bit more $.

I second all these reccomendations. If you have a car, doing a combo Cost-U-Less and The Market stop is the way to go. Cost-U-Less had 90% of what we wanted/needed (so I'd stop there first) and The Market filled the gap on pretty much anything else. We made one quick run to Pueblo mid-trip last summer (since it's pretty close to MFC) to try to replenish a few things and we were rather unimpressed with both the condition of the store and selection compared to The Market.

Just back from a great vaca, drove to Cost U Less (I do question how much less it is!) and filled the car up for the 6 of us. Not the best for small items so we did get a few things at Pueblo over by the airport.

Did you go to St John for the day and if so how did you get there and did you book in advance?

We have gone 2 different times both from Red Hook. The first time we took the car ferry and booked on line and drove around the island. The second time we took the smaller walk on ferry and did not make reservations. Be aware you can go over from Charlotte Amalie which is much closer to Frenchmans Cove if you don't have a car but the Red Hook ferry is only 20 minutes to St John so its the quicker of the two. https://stjohnticketing.com/

We will have a car. Is there any issues with rental car agencies allowing you to take their car on the ferry? If we do the walk on, is there anything to do at the St John ferry dock, or is a taxi needed once you arrive on St John in order to see anything?

The STJ people ferry arrives in Cruz Bay where there are shops/restaurants etc. walk a short bit and get to Mongoose Junction more shopping/dining. To go to a beach you take one of the open air taxi's waiting at the dock. You can walk up and buy your ticket in Redhook to people ferry to STJ, get the roundtrip $16/pp. Think someone told us the last car ferry back to STT is now 5p.

If the parking garage at the ferry in Redhook is full , drive back to Moe's Market and up the hill is a paid lot.

We bought 8ounce Phili cream cheese at Cost U Less $4, saw it was $6 at The Market.

We rented form Paradise and they had no issue with us taking the ferry. It only takes a couple of hours to go around the island, great beaches, views etc. But.......it takes a while to load both directions so just be aware is can be a wait. If you take the walk on ferry, there are places to see when you arrive, shopping etc and great places to eat lunch. You can take taxis so any of the snorkeling beaches if you take the walk on ferry. This last time we were with friends on a 48 ft cat after we left St Thomas and moored in the WSJ bay then off to the BVI's. An amazing trip! Enjoy!

Any idea if the taxis are good mode of transportation to the National Park if some of us are interested in doing a little hiking?

I assume you mean on St John and not Hassel Island 'on' St Thomas?

If so, the VINP starts a few steps from the ferry building. That's where the Visitor Center is located as well as the trail heads for the Lind Point and Caneel Hill trails. Beyond that it's easy to get taxis to/from some of the trails (e.g. Cinnamon Bay) and for others you are best off prearranging the return and probably the outbound as well.
